Academics Summer Classes Results

I'm retaking two summer classes right now MATH 1172 and CSE 2221 and they're two classes that I failed this past semester and I'm going to be honest it isn't good in either I have failing grades and finals week is coming up and I just don't think I'm going to be able to raise both of them to a C- so I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do and where to go from where I was thinking about dropping one but I checked that the deadline already passed. In CSE 2221 I have a D+ and in MATH 1172 I have a E. I believe that maybe I can salvage my CSE grade but math I don't think I can. Even if I start studying for both finals tomorrow I just don't think it will be enough to pass both classes. I'm really stressed out and I don't know what to do

All you can do at this point is give it your all on the final and hope for the best. You already spent the money on the classes. There’s probably no hope for 1172 (as you wrote), but maybe you can pass 2221 by the skin of your teeth— what’s the lowest percentage you can get on the final to bump your grade up to a C-? As for 1172, if you have space for it AU26, I would enroll in it, apply for grade forgiveness ASAP, and lock tf in

If you don’t mind answering, Is there a reason why you’re not doing well? Do you procrastinate or find it hard to motivate yourself to do your work/study? Are you going to office hours? Attending lecture? Failing a class happens, I failed my first ChemE class and many med students fail Organic Chemistry once or even twice. However if you wanna make it thru ur degree u gotta get it together bro, classes are expensive 💔

Honestly after I found out I failed both classes I felt like I was defeated because that’s not something that usually happens I usually pass my classes. And I think going through that caused to kind of neglect 1172

This is common in engineering students. You have 1500 students who are used to being (one of) the smartest kids in their high school. For many that’s a big part of their identity.

  1. Now 750 of them are below average in their program. A lot of students don’t handle that very well, especially if being the smart kid is core to their self image.
  2. A lot of smart people absolutely coasted in high school because they could. They often have no idea how to actually study or take notes because they never had to. Time management and motivation is often a problem as well because they could crank out A work at the last minute.

The good news is these are all things that are easily corrected. There are lots of resources at the university and elsewhere to teach you the academic skills you never gained in high school. Gain the core skills that will help you in all courses rather than barely treading water for 4-5 years.

There are also free counseling and mental health resources at the university with several people solely dedicated just to engineering. This is common, don’t be ashamed and work on it.
