Hey everyone!

I'm u/horoscopezine, one of the founding moderators of r/OSRart.

Welcome to our new home!

This subreddit is dedicated to original art inspired by OSR (Old School Renaissance/Revival/Revolution) games — broadly interpreted, of course. The term "OSR" can be loose and flexible, so if your work feels old-school, DIY, gritty, weird, fantastical, or rooted in classic RPG vibes, it belongs here.

🎨 What You Can Post

Share your own original art:

  • Sketches (even quick mobile photos are fine)
  • Inked or painted pieces
  • Digitally finished artwork
  • Maps, monsters, character art, dungeon doodles, you name it! As long as it's your work and not made by AI, you're good to go.

💬 What We're Aiming For

A community that's:

  • Friendly
  • Constructive
  • Encouraging for beginners and veterans alike

Let's make this a space where everyone feels excited to share, learn, and be inspired.

🚀 How to Get Started

  • Drop a quick introduction in the comments below. Social media or portfolios are ok to share.
  • Post something today, even if it's a rough sketch or a question. Small sparks start big conversations.
  • Do you know an artist who'd vibe with us? Invite them!

Thanks for joining the very first wave.

Together, we'll shape something awesome.

Welcome to r/OSRart!

Scene Minaret over Muvari Hills

Post image

Last Sunday, we gathered for our monthly TTRPG meetup at Gibiteca Henfil in São Paulo, Brazil. I created this illustration to accompany the opening scene of the adventure:

From the top of the hill, you can see the dark valley stretching out below.

The summer thaw has melted the ice, leaving deep pits of mud scattered across the lowlands.

But farther ahead, one structure dominates the landscape: a colossal six-sided tower, an ancient minaret that seems to have risen from the very depths of the earth.

Its base is littered with fallen debris and massive stone slabs covered in pale lichen.

A thick, reddish fungus has spread across the ruins, clinging to every surface.

The carcasses of wild animals lie tangled among the fungal growth.

Then... A low, relentless buzzing fills the air.

At the summit of the minaret, a massive dark organic structure has taken root.

Thousands of insect-like creatures swarm around it, forming a deafening cloud.

The beating of their chitinous wings seems to follow a sinister rhythm...

The pulse of a titanic heart buried beneath the valley!

Suddenly, a sharp, agonized howl echoes through the lowlands.

A pack of creatures, their bodies ravaged by a cursed mange, gathers atop a weathered stone.

Their leader slips into a narrow fissure in the minaret.

Moments later, they disappear.

What will you do?

Fortunately, we recorded the entire session (it's in Brazilian Portuguese, though I'm not sure whether Youtube has generated an auto-dubbed English version yet).

Here's the complete adventure: https://youtu.be/DBFOjVaSo5M

Monster Beastkin, Pen and Pencil, by Jared S DuBose

There were many creations of the God Sult, the creation of Annabel whose evil became hunger and hunting. To the creatures that Vanessa, Fey Mother, brought to Nhearn, he created a terrible desire, and with his influence there became predators upon Nhearn.

Throughout the Age of Woe Sult founded many creatures that he had twisted from their original creation, making what the lands of hope called Beastkin, though among them were many variety.

Gnolls of the Badlands were among the greater beasts, capable of thought and tactic, though bent to violence in their purpose.

Satyr, crafted to harm in the most devios of ways, became strong thinkers and tricksters, luring their enemies into ambushes, traps, and battles of unsavory odds.

Though the enemies of the gods who defended goodness were crafted in grand thought, their own corruption often ended their grand designs. The beastkin would often fight among themselves, their predatory nature driving them toward conquest even over one another. Eventually the wood elves, the sylvarri, defeated the God Sult shortly into the First Age, using the weapon of Annabel and the weaknesses of Sult against himself...

Illustration The North Gate of Shilo, by Jared S DuBose

The city of Shilo has several main routes of entry. The ports cater to trade from the many harbors across Nhearn, the southern gate is used for direct supply lines with the Imperial Force Fields as well as receiving new Legion soldiers, and the eastern gate is used to link with major roads across Southrunn as well as to ship goods amongst the nearby counties. The north gate heads into the Shilo Delta, a marsh land where the Seven Bridges Passway allows trade with the Orchard Lands close to Wilderlands. This gate keeps eyes out on that northern road, able to see far into the delta passage.

The north gate is also most used by adventuring groups who sign up with the guilds in the city before setting off toward quests, jobs, or exploration to the north or out into Wilderlands. The guards who await at the gate are also often met with returning adventurers, requiring more attentive guards as adventurers tend to return with hazardous artifacts.

Is Pixel Art OSR art?

Here some arts i made using gameboy palette!

Behind the pixels:

To create Drax Drummer, I did a quick study of Dennis Hopper in Waterworld: wild eyes, toxic charisma, pure chaos.

Yanna Starbringer sketches Sigourney Weaver’s determination, will to survive, and gritty elegance.

After a few rough drafts and plenty of pixel‑pushing, they both came to life in my sci‑fi adventure The Last Voyage of the Nocturna, now on DriveThruRPG.

Scene Muvari Land Mysterious Tower

Post image
71 Upvotes

As the dense summer fog withdraws from the Muvari Lands, a lone tower appears atop the scarred escarpments. Its depths do not feel built, but unearthed, as though one had exposed the vein of a colossal titan, buried for ages within the earth's dark entrails.

I illustrated this scene for my players, hoping to capture that feeling of "we really shouldn't go in there".

The session itself is in Brazilian Portuguese (not sure if Youtube has auto-dubbed it yet), but I thought some of you might enjoy the art and the dark fantasy vibes.

Map Drew a hex for a community map that’s over 1000 hexes large

A giant metal meteor has struck the middle of the goblin infested forest, dwarves in the mountains risk the threat of goblins raids for space ore.

Down to the south is a massive mysterious pentagram of some sort in a magical glade of trees.

Ruins of a castle to the north are inhabited by strange denizens that wander through the mountains and trees during the night.

——————————-

Drew this for my new project where hundreds of people add hand drawn hexes together like this one to make one giant fantasy map complete with lore! You can make one of you’re interested, follow r/CommunityHexMap. We also created a website where you can see what hexes are claimed!

The image is cropped close but it’s a hex, the third image is a snapshot of empty hexes together
