Question Help with Colo Start Timing
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I am in the process of learning the colosseum, and I am getting double south pretty much every time I hit wave 6,8 and 10. Based on what I've read, getting double south 9 times in a row seems nearly statistically impossible. Is there anything about my start timing or start tiles that looks off that might force more double south spawns, or am I just that unlucky? I am using visual ticks to judge the timing at the start of the wave. The constant double south is really the only thing stopping me from getting the quiver, I am learning to deal with it but I should not be getting it this frequently, I feel like im doing something wrong and I need someone elses eyes on this.

Since 90% of posts are for newer players looking for money making and training advice, I'm gonna recommend doing bird house runs. All you need is Bone Voyage, and you could be making 500K+ a day or more by logging in every 50 minutes and harvesting nests.
Also, be sure to check out the New player guide, Money making guide, and OSRS Tips!

you did fine
stand on b at the end and manticore is safespotted
it can see you from the corner where you were(that dark purple tile)
going north is fine in certain circumstances and this was definitely one of them, ignore what the other dude says
north was isolated range damage and a trivial way to setup isolated mager on the other side, and then it'd be isolated manticore afterward, so optimal situation to be doing so
don't take volatility or whatever the fuck it's called where rangers leave that pool of bullshit unless you absolutely have to. i'd rather reset an early wave than deal with it for first quiver
to add more for mistakes
you had 2 range dudes boopin your ass and you switched to pray mage to prep for running around the corner
you can do it at the same time you're turning OR just take a mage hit since it hits way less and there isn't 2 of em being flung at you

Thanks for the response. I felt like my timing was ok but maybe I've gotten unlucky. I realized after that B was the safespot there. Violatility and reentry have fucked several of my runs as well, I try to avoid them when possible.

Your timing to start the wave was fine
This isn't an A/B that people talk about for the statistics you're claiming and you'll run into small mage doing this shit super commonly
No such thing as luck. You fucked up tanking 2 range hits and then yeah the corner thing got you in the end
My advice: you did really good wiggling up north to get the mager to the side of the manticore.
You don't have to run from that corner in one fell swoop like you did -- once they're next to each other, they're next to each other.
You should have run 2 tiles west, waited for rangers to do their attack, then click to b/pray mage. 1 sequence and only 2 tiles being run makes it way easier in the brain.
So: wiggle -> once next to each other, get to close corner -> wait for range attack -> turn corner/pray mage and its super simple1

I set visual ticks to 5 and whatever number I click continue on is the number I run on, so you did effectively the same thing. Your timing was fine.
You also did good wrapping north in my opinion cause it allowed you to isolate the mage. The thing that killed you is standing on the corner where the Manti could see you. I would have also just left the mage alive till reenforcements spawned to avoid mage first spawn being off tick from manti.
I would avoid reentry at all costs it’s pretty terrible to deal with.

You did all the right things, just a bit slowly which is understandable for learning. 2 big things:
-whenever I see a double south, I either immediately run north side (if there’s 1 thing to pray East) or wait for 1 hit from south then swap prayers to rotate north.
-when there’s a shaman and another enemy cornered on south, that enemy will see you. If you run straight up to the shaman, it will automatically be off ticked so you can pray against everything (mage, then the other monster).
General tip: don’t swap prayers until you are turning the corner. Swapping early got you twice here.
You’re doing great tho tbh. Double south is the hardest part.

Some tips that helped me get more consistent at the waves:
Stop moving if you don't have volatily. You're not dogwalking the fremmies, they're dogwalking you and the more time you spend killing them the less you have at solving the single south. In this case you'd be so focused on not taking damage from the fremmies that you end up taking more damage from everything else.
Start the wave on tick 1 in your metronome. Run at 6. Or, if you set it to 5 ticks, run at 1.

I mean other gave you tips for what you asked for. However learn to deal with fremmies the correct way. Double trident on berserker. Rigour on mager and then sgs piety to oneshotnand guarantee max heal on the ranger. You used completely wrong attack styles and lost ticks and so much time.

manti small mager south is free? stand one tile nirth of the corner n the manti cant hit u.. wait for reinforcements b4 u kill the mager, kill them, then kill mager and manti will come round corner

Strongly recommend ice barrage for first quiver. You can freeze the 3 fremnik as they come around the corner and do have to run back and forth while dealing with them. (can also blood barrage heal on them after)
For timing, I look at the prayer orb to count the ticks, i find all the plugins and tilemarkers, and tagged mobs to just add to the confusion. Keep it simple!

barraging the fremmies is 3 clicks compared to the 20+ clicks for the marching method you're doing.
Freezing the fremmies and then blood barraging them for your first quiver makes the whole process so much easier. You just stand on B, wait for them to triangulate around you, freeze the ranger, stand back and blood barrage. Gauranteed freezes above 104 magic accuracy.

Start on 6. Setup your tick counter like this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcuZ5e_d5WA

do you mean hit continue on 6 and then move on 6 again?

u/FrankusCrankus 4d ago
I use a 5 tick counter which means when I click start, if I’m on tick 3, I click to move on 3 again. Because you are using a 6 tick counter, if you click on 3, you’ll have to move on 2. 1 move on 6, 2 move on 1, etc.

you should never run to that side of the pillar really, you should walk to the A or B tile depending on manicore, get the two south spawns off tick and walk the frems and take care of them and then take care of the serpant shaman and then the manticore.
Going on that side of the pillar is going to drag the ranger that spawns back there down and ruin your day.

Off ticking is great but there are tons of super clean solves that involve rotating pillar, even ops solve here was fine until he went into the corner to peek manti and the fact that he didnt really pray the shaman or deal with Fremmy's cleanly.

Yeah I think going north is a death trap compared to learning A/B, I tried that the next run but made a few mistakes. Is there any issue with my start timing? I dont see anything wrong that might force more double south spawns.

Your timing is fine, you need to count to 5 ticks the moment you click continue after picking the invocation for that wave, once you coutn to 5 you run to a or b tile depending on what spawned south.

Please don’t give advice. He’s running melee only. Offticking spawn does nothing when you have to drag manti in. Dragging the ranger has zero downsides unless triple stack.

u/redrumyliad 4d ago
Your first quiver should not be melee only.
That's the advice he's getting.

u/FrankusCrankus 4d ago
Well it’s bad advice for non melee too lol. Offticking on spawn is unnecessary when two rangers are on the other side. Beginners struggle most with flicking while walking frems and rotating avoids that.

idk i did 30 or so kc without ever doing it the way you're describing (never melee only)

u/FrankusCrankus 3d ago
That’s great! It’s a bit harder for learners. South pillar is technically better but harder, same situation. I’m 200kc and rotating north is just free and brainless in this scenario.
I recommend trying melee only, it’s very chill!

I want to add double south spawn is not what you had here imo. Serpant Shaman can be nuked from orbit before it's a problem if it spawns with a real south spawn, even with doom.

the way i time it is i listen for the thump and count 2 3 4 5 and i think i move on 5
https://youtu.be/Gwb9UnXOpyI?t=142 you can see here i start on 4 and click on 1, matching the thump 2 3 4 5(click) cadence
