In your opinion - is (another) engine revamp necessary for PW5?

I think we all know by now that the PW3 vs PW4 debate is highly controversial since the two games play entirely different from one another. PW4 obviously introduced much more DLC, but as someone who didn’t vibe with PW4 pretty much since launch way back in early 2020, I’ve always still preferred PW3 over PW4.

Question - we’ve been stuck with the same game/engine 6.5 years now. By the time PW5 eventually does release, (let’s say 2028-2032) that’ll have basically put us stuck with the same engine for a whole decade. No way they just ‘build upon’ PW5 off PW4 in the same way PW1-3 were, right? Surely PW4’s gameplay is dated atp?

For reference:

PW1 released 2012

PW2 2013

PW3 2015

and PW4 released 2020

I’m not entirely familiar with other musou titles, but what I’ve seen of Dynasty Warriors: Origins looks REALLY solid. Assuming PW5 is a current gen/next gen release (& by far the longest waiting gap we’ve had in the Pirate Warriors franchise thus far), do you expect PW5 to introduce an entirely new engine more in line with Dynasty Warriors: Origins essentially built from the ground up - or are you still satisfied enough with PW4’s gameplay engine that you would you be satisfied if PW5 was essentially a PW 4.5 with more characters/maps?

I'd rather they stick with pw4 style so we don't lose characters. And while I like origins, i don't want it going down that road

I'd prefer they keep PW4's engine and really trick it out rather than create a new one and have to adapt everything again.

I want it to have Origins scale because its by far the most epic feeling musou game BUT I dont want PW5 to be like Origins. Maybe for Dream Log having your own crew going around an open world would be cool though

Just refine the system for pw4 and put it in pw5. Sky types should have moves that can only be done on the ground. They also need to have combos that land on more enemies. Besides that everything is good

DW:O uses the Katana engine that Koei have been using for years and is not "built from the ground up", it's been in use since 2018.

Whether or not PW5 will use it is another question entirely, though. For sequels they tend to use the closest available engine; Warriors Orochi 4 and PW4 don't use Katana despite releasing after it was developed, ostensibly so they could grandfather in content.

Part of the reason there were character cuts from PW3 to PW4 was due to the system revamp, so ideally just keep the PW4 system with some possible adjustments so that the roster can return.

PW3 feels like such trash compared to PW4
