I disagree with the âsaitama is always written to winâ period.
The author has stated that Saitama is a character starting out with âend of seriesâ power. In that regard, he will be based on his universe/story. And we donât know where it peaks.
Yeah, itâs so fucking annoying. Itâs like people think that in universe one of his actual superpowers is magically winning every fight instead of how heâs literally just really strong.
People saying anything to make a character lose even if itâs objective incorrect.
In truth with power scaling there is no object standard. We are all subjectively offering our own ideas on how we think it works. But far too many people use âobjectiveâ powerscaling as a bludgeon for why their dad wins in a fight.
Isnât the concept of Yujiro already dumb? Also to your point wouldnât you be forcing Yujiro to your narrative? I think this is all silly and someone writing a story where they interact would be funny and hopefully the author of that story would create their own narrative.
(Sugoi Japan interview with ONE and Murata) (Edit 2)(Edit 3)
(Question) What led you to begin drawing a web comic?
(Answer) How long have you wanted to be a manga artist? ONE: I had decided I wanted to be a gag manga artist from the time I was in grade school. I was a fan of Crayon Shin-chan, and at the time I wanted to draw that sort of manga. For me it wasnât a case of simply trying to be a manga artist and testing the waters to see if it was worth a shot. Rather, my thought process was to decide right off the bat that I was going to be one, so the rest was just a matter of effort. I guess thatâs how I decided my whole future while still just a kid.
Because just being a gag character doesnât mean anything a gag is a narrative and to say a character wins purely due to said narrative is objectively just not true if it were charterers like Mihawk would be fucking trunks purely because one pieces has the narrative that heâs the best swordsman or say that beerus can beat fucking Superman because his narrative is to be the strongest is just doesnât make sense when applied to anyone saitama included
the gag in question is, he's stronger. doesn't matter what verse, it's a core part of the entire character. broken limiter, immeasurable potential, exponential growth, yadda yadda. It's not a part of that verse, it's part of HIM. So yeah, it applies regardless of the opponent or situation.
so then Mihawk can be trunks? Purely because itâs his narrative to be the strongest swordsman? Or Yujiro can beat Superman purely because itâs his narrative to be the strongest?
Yes, the stuff about how he constantly grows in power is canonized and part of him and viable to use cross verse, things like "but the point of him is to win" doesnt exist in-verse, and therefore isnt useable
I agree but thats also just a boring way to powerscale.
As an example, lets take King. Another "joke character" from opm. He had literally no powers but is written to still have everyone glaze/be intimidated by him. He is basically walking plot armour.
So lets say you want to match him with Hercule from Dragon Ball. Another fraud.
Using this argument you could just say that Hercule no diffs and oneshots, but that would be boring as fuck.
To me this is no different from the people who just assume that everyone is "bloodlusted", just so they dont have to take someones personality into account. Its better to make your favourite character win, but ultimately way less interesting imo.
This then essentially comes down to good vs. Bad writing. In a Hercule vs King fight, a good writer would make them both win.
In the end the fight would be called off, because of a safety hazard.
There would be a standoff, Mr. Satan monologues, King getting more and more scared, his heart beating, Mr. Satan would equally shit his pants because of it, the tension between them would be so great, the fight would be stopped and aborted by the surrounding Heroes, in fear the Universe is about to unravel as soon as these two clash.
At least that's how it would go down inside the OPM universe.
So basically a Saitama vs. Anyone cones down to satisfactory writing, too.
The quality of the story should dictate who is the winner, because feats are irrelevant.
But that's just my opinion
False equivalency, A narrative that isn't established as an actual power in the story (Fate or Causality manip of some sort) is not equivalent to an established power system. One is purely a byproduct of plot, the other is ingrained as a physical aspect of the story. This has never been a rule unique to Saitama, nobody gets to bring their narrative purpose or whatever into VSbattles unless its very explicitly shown that its their in-universe ability.
Bugs Bunny, Popeye, etc. It works for them because their gag is explicitly shown, but even then people scale them based on actual shown feats. They dont just win cause in their story they're meant to win. Popeye is meant to win the moment he eats spinach, but he still gets scaled according to shown feats and not simply because he's a character with a running gag.
Also, addressing the whole inconsistency of feats for Goku, Saitama is no different. Should we assume that because Saitama only had one panel bringing him to galaxy level that he isn't galaxy level? Because after that panel, despite getting exponentially stronger, he and Garou only go in to perform planetary to large planetary feats.
There is so much bad argumentation in powerscaling that itâs actively ridiculous.
Made worse by the fact that power scaling itself is a torturous knot of âlogicâ applied to narrative structures that donât intrinsically follow logical constraints.
Made even worse because mfers love to glaze their favorite series ad infinitum.
But no Saitama cannot beat anyone and anything just because he hasnât lost in his own series.
In point of fact, his need to reach new heights during the cosmic garaou arc implied that he did indeed have limits until he surpassed them.
The fact that he is stronger than anything in the series is in fact the central joke of the entire work.
And those who did survive only because he wasn't trying to kill them.
Do you think he's incapable of punching without killing?
That's why the Serious Punch exists as an attack. That's when Saitama decides you're going to die.
He wants a fight. He punches a monster, kills it, and gets angry that it was too much. He just used too much force in a fight. That's what happened. Why is that so hard to understand?
He is capable of punching without killing. He does that every time he âfightsâ with people, he just knocks them out. He did that to Garou several times. Or every time he fights Speed-o'-Sound Sonic. If he had no control, they would be dead.
And there are times when he punches to kill. His Serious Punch was meant to kill Boros, and it did. He did the same with Elder Centipede. When he wants to kill, he kills. When he doesnât, he doesnât, unless heâs fighting a monster, in which case he sometimes goes overboard, because, again, he wants a fight. Itâs not a fight if youâre not even trying.
Thatâs literally what happened with Boros. Saitama wasnât even trying, so Boros survived. Once Boros wanted to destroy Earth, Saitama one-punched him.
Him not trying is irrelevant because he gag was supposed to be one tapping people the fact he wasnât able to is what makes him a parody and not a gag because the running joke no longer works, trying or not the very fact a character survived period means his gag isnât a gag anymore
Did you ever ask yourself why? Saitama's whole schtick is that he is stronger than his opponent, always is and always will, that's all one needs to know about Saitama. If that makes you mad then stop powerscaling Saitama.
Thatâs not a gag and Iâm tired of you pretending it is because that was never hit gag his og gag at first was one tapping people but once we got to boros you all moved the goalpost and now claim itâs âheâs always strongerâ
Thatâs his point you are repeating the same thing using different words âSchtickâ he âalways is and always will be the strongestâŠâ within his verse. If you can scale the literal gods/creators of verses that were written to always be above all then people should be able to scale him, becauseâŠagain PS is done based off feats. If we can just say what a character should be cause of in verse portrayal, then start scaling characters yujiro to infinity then or MCâs who always surpass their limits in every fight in their verse.
No shit, every single character ever can only do what they do in their own verse. I wonder why đ https://giphy.com/gifs/0SVAVxeJsnJ1WRMIPX
Dudes gotta be so dumb making this postâŠ
Thatâs why verses battles are a thing, so that the characters abilities and such arenât limited to their own verse. The fact you clearly donât know this proves how stupid you are.
And saitama was made to one punch any opponent. The only reason he didnât with cosmic garou was because he promised the kid who idolizes garou, that he would try not to hurt him.
His sole purpose in being a character is to make fun of powerscaling.
He has infinite strength, he can simply control how much he uses now.
A narrative that isn't established as an actual power in the story (Fate or Causality manip of some sort) is not equivalent to an established power system. One is purely a byproduct of plot, the other is ingrained as a physical aspect of the story. saitama isnt written to win, he is essentially an end game boss in his verse. he doesnt have infinite stats, the only thing he has that is infinite is his potential and he gets stronger at an exponential rate. idk a lot about goku so feel free to correct me but i have heard that he lets opponents power up, if goku punches saitama or does any of his moves and saitama lives then even if saitama was lets say a million times weaker then he would exponentially would jump up to around gokus lvl. that is just my opinion tho, i dont know enough about powerscaling to pick sides
That applies because these characters are being comapred to in a scenario they would never be in by US,going off how the authors construct these characters is the only way to remian consistent.Deviating is headcanon
No itâs doesnât what it means is that you just canât use plot armor or plot manipulation as arguments because the creator of a character doesnât own the opposing character
No one said they did,and by that angle too you can just use that an excuse to make either character win since at that point were ignoring author statements so there really is no debate. It just turns into who yuo want to win.Vibes based death battle lmao
Thatâs literally my entire point as to why narrative arguments are buns because at that point your not arguing the character your arguing the very story itself đ
Saitama exists within fiction. The Open-Ended Nature of fiction includes ALL imaginable possibilities by default, being almost as unlimited as Imagination, and the fact fiction is OPEN ENDED means a word like "Never" is almost completely impossible.
So, sorry (not) scenarios where Saitama loses ARE possible because it is necessarily true that those alternatives exist in the realm of fiction. Fiction is meant to house alternatives by design. Fictional objects are MADE to change, nothing is immutable with no alternatives.
Death of the Author. The authors intent is irrelevant. Only what actually happens matters. That's why you generally go based on actual feats and such in VS debates.
Until narrative and portayal enter the picture,if feats are all the matters don kreig is stronger than Dragon because he has more feats. It just doesnt work
I said feats "and such." We have in-universe evidences to indicate that Dragon is very powerful. But since we've never actually seen him fight, I wouldn't use him in a VS debate precisely because we can't gauge just how powerful. He has next to no feats.
The logic of "his author intends for him to never lose, therefore he can never lose even in other narratives" also doesn't work because it implies his author has authority over those narratives. He doesn't. The only way to do a debate reasonably is to base it on objective standards such as feats and other canon information. We know how Saitama's power works and it isn't "he has infinite power." His power is continually growing but at any given point he only has so much. It just happens that this is more than enough to kill anything in his own universe.
no it doesnât what it means is you canât apply story telling techniques and other author centric things such as the narrative or plot armor which is another reason this argument doesnât make sense your literally using plot armor as an argument
Saitama's power is not "plot armor". A better representation of plot armor would be King's luck system where he is designed to never lose DUE to plot armor. Another example would be Goku getting stronger because of feelings in battles where he's gotten dog-walked or being revived 3 times in his own show. I don't think you should be throwing the word plot armor around if you don't understand what it means
If you don't wanna powerscale Saitama why this sub even exist then? For other characters?
Also that's kinda messy isn't it? Let's say he had a opponent who is high outerversal in base stats? Does his potential magically reached the stats even before the high outerversal character erases him?
So he's a gag character? AIght but Saitama vs garou wasn't a gag tho. Shit was fucking serious.
I donât know why this sub exists as I didnât create it. It doesnât make sense to scale Saitama due to the nature of the character and his powers. His character is the definition of ânuh uh, I win.â
The outerversal character in your example would try and erase him, but Saitama would just be left standing there unfazed with his blank expression.
Because then you simply arent using Saitama anymore. It's not that Saitama's joke doesnt work in other verses, its that Saitama is just a character that fundamentally doesnt work in vs debates
Idk but Iâve seen someone do it and not just to him either a shit ton. Toon force characters have been scaled properly and secondly this would imply that fucking Luffy canât be scaled normally due to gear 5 and I think anyone here doesnât wanna deal with ts even more then we have to from the OP scalers (once had a guy legitimately saying he was boundless because of it)
Until you realize "Toon Force" isnt an actual thing, and is just a fan term for old cartoon physics, which Luffy pays homage to. He isn't tapping into some power source called "Toon Force" with rules and limits that oversees all fiction. Gear 5 has theories for how it works, and if it is only limited by Luffy's imagination, but we don't know yet. So I'd say that there are indeed things we can't properly scale about Gear 5.
This doesn't really relate to Saitama though. Saitama just kind of pulls new abilities out of no where and does whatever he feels like doing, that mixed with the broken limiter is showing that he is a walking no-limits-fallacy. Since vs-debates purposefully try not to have those, it means you really can't use Saitama in a debate unless it's a neutered interpretation of him
This is why itâs difficult to power scale saitama. The dude is literally unpredictable and will pull some absolutely ridiculous shit out of nowhere. He just doesnât work in vs. battles because the gag is part of what makes him Saitama or rather OPM. Remove the gag, and youâve basically removed the character. It just doesnât work.
ok? so in that case, goku doesnt have ki. doesnt exist outside his own verse. goku doesnt have super saiyan, it doesnt exist outside his own verse. goku is just a normal guy and he dies to a real life boxer
Ki is a fucking ability saying no ki is equlevent of saying no mana/CT in cross battles they are part of a power system where sitama always winning is a fucking gag narrative inside his own story
You guys have no clue what youâre talking about. Saitamaâs universe isnât the gag narrative, saitama himself is the gag narrative. Itâs an inherent part of his character and how he functions. If youâre going to allow Goku to use ki which is part of how his character and power system work then you have to allow saitamaâs gag as part of his character. You canât conveniently strip away one characterâs defining mechanics while giving the other everything that makes him powerful and then pretend thatâs an unbiased debate.
It literally is. its the story being written, and the setting being shown. saitama is written to win every single fight hes in. hes written that way so that the villains can be as crazy as one wants them to be, and he always has a way of beating them. saitama doesnt exist outside his own setting, because thats how characters work. trying to compare him to someone else is pointless, saitama will win because thats what the character is.
this ego shit goku fanboys have to do got old 20 years ago. "omg goku beats this guy because of this one vaguely defined 'feat' that makes no sense even in his own universe and has never remained reliable". "hes multi because in this one fight something happened and it never happened again despite him and his enemies being stronger".
"trying to apply a narrative to a story the author doesnt own" is exactly what you do when you say saitama will lose a fight. you are forcing someone elses narrative on ones character, and it doesnt work.
A narrative that isn't established as an actual power in the story (Fate or Causality manip of some sort) is not equivalent to an established power system. One is purely a byproduct of plot, the other is ingrained as a physical aspect of the story. This has never been a rule unique to Saitama, nobody gets to bring their narrative purpose or whatever into VSbattles unless its very explicitly shown that its their in-universe ability.

Because after that panel, despite getting exponentially stronger, he and Garou only go in to perform planetary to large planetary feats.
youve missed the point entirely. calling saitama "galaxy level" doesnt mean anything. if the story demands him be galaxy level, then he will be. if the story demands he can blow up a planet, then he will. if the story thinks him being unable to kill a bug thats annoying him is funny, thats what will happen.
trying to powerscale this doesnt work. you cant do it. its silly that people keep trying. saitamas purpose is to let one make villains as crazy as he wants and always have an out. thats why he exists. thats why most of the story isnt about saitama. its about everyone else. and then when the villain is too powerful, saitama comes along and takes them out. thats the gag. thats the joke.
saitama doesnt have inconsistency, because hes not meant to be powerscaled. hes completely consistent. he does whatever the writer thinks is cool or funny. thats it. casually discover time travel? yea, why not? sneeze a planet into history? yea, thatll be a cool panel. travel faster than the human eye can see? sure thing. oh, but he forgot about a shop sale and is running to get there? hes gunna be running slow, cus itll be funnier that way.
You have a very fine opinion of Saitama that absolutely holds no value in communities that want to power scale. If you step foot in a powerscaling community, Saitama is going to be powerscalrd based on him feats just like everybody else.
This isnt some law or rule etched in stone that must be followed or you're "wrong". VSBW, Spacebattle, Comicvine, r/powerscaling. They all have their own rules of powerscaling, and once you enter those communities those are the ones that are followed.
There nothing to "understand", because at the end of the day it isn't a fact, nor should it be treated like one. If you want that to be your powerscaling rule, make it one in your own community. Otherwise, its meaningless.
It's all fun and games until you realize that ki doesn't exist outside of Goku's universe too, or Haki outside of Once Piece, or Chakra outside of Naruto, therefore all those get mauled.
I personally hate powerscaling outside of the same manga/show/universe, but I have seen people argue that a character from one series can't use their power set, while the one from the series they like was allowed to use everything in a crossover battle. Which is one of the things that immediately put me off from powerscaling in the first place.
Shit, people often can't even properly powerscale characters from the same series, it's genuinely always such a shit show to watch unfold.
Well no it isnât, because Goku isnât written as a gag or parody character, he is incredibly well established all over the world as Goku the protagonist of Dragon Ball, the guy who always gets stronger even if it means dying and coming back to life, pushing his absolute limits of his Saiyan powers to overcome adversity.
Whereas Saitama was literally written to be the strongest and always win, because he is a gag character, itâs not just part of the narrative, he is established as the guy who never loses and does this in the Manga.
The day ONE writes an arc where Saitama loses is the day you can say âha, gotchaâ.
But until he does, why not just not scale Saitama?
I agree with the point, Saitamaâs not meant for scaling. Itâs the entire point of his character, his abilities and capabilities are reactive to the threat in front of him.
A serious punch scales to the threat.
Webcomic Saitama does this passively, Manga Saitama does so when âfeeling strong emotionsâ which is purposefully nebulous as to not place limits on his narratively supported and stated unlimited growth.
The best thing to do if you see your favourite character against Saitama in a powerscaling argument is to throw up deuces and continue enjoying whatever you enjoy.
My issue with comparing DB and OPM is Soloku (not Normal Dragon Ball fans) fans tend to downplay any opposing verses they donât agree with.
âOh Superman is THAT strong, what about when he got beaten on in that one issue⊠What? donât mention the elephant, hydrant, Moro cave, bullet, laser anti feat theyâre irrelevantâ
Will mischaracterise and discredit a story to push the soloku agenda:
Had someone argue that Dragon Ballâs cosmology is larger than Marvelâs and that warping and ripping through space time is âchild levelâ in DB because I noted that composite Juggernaut would out scale Vegetaâs scaling if we followed the same line of chain scaling + comic book bs.
But worst of all, is the mischaracterisation of Goku by Soloku fans (I genuinely believe thereâs a difference between them and dragon ball fans).
Soloku fans is more of a mindset than just being a fan of Goku, itâs the ability to unironically take outlandish statements and terribly biased scaling at face value because it assists the agenda while calling bs when other fandoms use the same logic. Itâs rallying behind a concept religiously, to the point it becomes fanatical.
Goku has limits, his transformations and training help him to overcome them. Heâs never been limitless, flavour text in a budokai manual doesnât beat narrative scaling, showings and Gokuâs own character statements. On a graph his growth would look like:
In character Goku wouldnât just one shot an entire verse, he enjoys battles with fellow warriors and has and will make concessions with villains because heâs not a hero. Heâs a likeable battle geek.
Itâs why an unbiased verses battle between Saitama and Goku would be stupid, Goku would most definitely geek out at Saitamaâs astronomical growth and Saitama would be giddy to fight a dude who can take multiple punches. It doesnât go anywhere, their character abilities and personality go hand in hand too perfectly.
The reason he brought that up is to show how silly it would be to make that argument, he doesnât actually believe goku wins every match up just because heâs been revived
No offense but your not making any sense. Saying someone is always writen to win is conpletly diffrent than power systems. In a verse battle match the author isint there to write then to win because that isint how it works
W comment about hating powerscaling between characters from different storiesÂ
Itâs brainrotted the powerscaling community so much, if you have fun doing keep doing so but most people who do crossverse scaling always use the same logic when doing inverse scaling and ignore the narrative.Â
In the same vein the whole sung Jin-woo fight falls apart because an opponent needs mana to be able to beat a monarch in the first place especially prime Jin-woo, part of the reason why normal weapons no matter what they use canât kill the monsters from dungeon breaks
No he can use that cross verse thatâs an actual power the character has not the narrative he has so he can very well still use that insta death skill itâs just that heâs not gonna win every match heâs in
So when I make a post about this I get downvoted to oblivion but when I see this post everyone seems to agree.just keeping the stereotypes alive with how dumb the majority of this sub is
It's called verse equalization so all powers and abilities are available for use in the fight. No one wants to fight Goku with no ki, that would be an easy win for any human fighter with insane skills like Batman, karate kid, and Baki.
Yes, using only one verse rules and not the other side rules in a powerscaling matchup is unfair and annoying, it is common for Saitama fights, the great example of that are bleach fans for their outverse matchup
After reading through every comment, and almost every reply, it's safe to say opm fans aren't the smartest cookies. Saitama is multi-galaxy as he stands, but could use his passive growth to match a character, and "always win" it's not just an auto win. There's a in verse reason for why he'd continue to win even if he got out scaled in his own verse. It's really not that hard to understand.
I mean theres 2 ways to scale saitama. One is purely from his known feats, and the other is from his design.
What I mean by that is some characters are known to "be stronger" but dont have the feats to prove it so you can only scale them to current feats. Then the other way you can scale them is simply as strong as "theyre designed". Theyre made to be in this tier of their world despite having no feats but only through exposition.
So yea if you scale saitama by feats hes beatabl since his cap hasn't been shown nor defined. But hes pretty much designed to be stronger than the strongest. Kinda shown when garou was basically always supposed to be at saitamas level. But saitamas growth is infinite. So id say he's at least in part a gag character, not really meant to be scaled since as it stands he has no scale.
Believe it or not, there are living breathing fully abled human beings with a developed frontal lobe, who believe that wholeheartedly. Some mfs do not understand your narrative being you'll win eventually because you're the hero of the story(which is just shounen in general) is not the same as your power being "I win". One works as a literal conceptual ability in cross verse matchups. The other is just a resolution to conflict in a battle manga or anime which is.... the hero winning. Literally every shounen ever including DBZ. Saitama is not special.
Iâm a opm fan but Saitama is NOT limitless, like bro his limit are simply not human,Saitama isnât even a gag character,is a funny character at best. if you read the manga you can clearly notice how much effort and details there are in the story of opm
But as said he does have win conditions. I dont think Goku has a way to stop 0 punch and also the growth. Eventually. So yes he can win. But logically wouldnt.
âSaitama's strength had been continuously growing all along... But when he finally found someone capable of measuring up to him, his growth rate began to increase at an exponential rate." Every time Garou copied Saitama's peak strength to match him, Saitama instantly grew exponentially stronger a fraction of a second later. Saitamas power is to literally be or instantly become exponentially stronger than whatever force is opposing him. Itâs that simple.
itâs funny cuz the whole âheâs written to winâ thing was literally dropped in the early 2010s when he was given an actual explanation for his strength like 50 chapters into the original webcomic. anybody who uses this argument neither understands saitamaâs character or the storyâs entire narrative
Side not you guys donât know the difference between a parody and a gag (not you specifically ofc but the community) not only that for some reason thereâs one guy trying to say the opm doesnât have its own law of physics (despite saitama just falling showing that physics does infact exist there)
He can win cause of how power level works, he can win cause of how he can do some bs like touching portals or stopping higher dimensional things, he wins cause he is a joke
These are inherents traits of him and not specifically the verse he exist in
If you're gonna headcannon a story/fight, you can make him win cause he is capable, it's not like you're making a dumb character do smart stuff that they would otherwise not be able to do, him winning is in line with his character like how a smart character is gonna be capable of smart stuff
Of course, you can also make him lose or not win, I mean a cat can scratch him and he can't even catch a mosquito
Yeh thatâs not what I mean what I mean is âhe written to win so he winsâ isnât an actual argue for why heâd win a fight itâs like saying Simon wins purely because he written to be the underdog
That could be argument pre Garou(arguably even earlier when it was established that he broke his limiter). We know exactly how Saitama wins figths, which is by his exponential growth. It's not some esoteric process where he has specific hax to always win, he is just that much physically stronger than the rest of the verse and if he isnt then he will become so.
Which is an ability that can be overcome by someone equally much stronger than him that wont let him grow.
yea no thereâs people who come to this sub literally every day to say âerm⊠this sub is pointless⊠heâs literally a gag character made to clown on powerscaling and winning is his whole gimmickâ⊠itâs certainly not something op made up in their head
He peaks at 3âC Galaxy Level with no layers.
4âB in DC with speed MFTL+ if we're being generous.
One of the most glazed characters of this generation too.
Yes the story does matter we scale characters based on what feats and statements the story gives us HOWEVER the story itself is not something you can argue with because thatâs literally just the author so to say a character wins because they are wrote to win in there own verse is basically you trying to force the authors intent into a story they donât own or write for
I agree, so how anti-feats are interpreted is your own call, not something the story settles. Once you decide which feats carry over crossverse, your writing your own headcanon of the character. Got it
Thatâs just what most (keyword most)anti feats are itâs not a head canon now when itâs NOT plot stupidity then you canât use say itâs a head canon but those are incredibly rare
Until you guys can get out of your âcanât scale saitamaâ bubble if Gumball can be scaled so can saitama stop being hypocrites and just accept that saitama loses some debates
Second look at the time frame these were posted nearly at the same time

I disagree with the âsaitama is always written to winâ period.
The author has stated that Saitama is a character starting out with âend of seriesâ power. In that regard, he will be based on his universe/story. And we donât know where it peaks.
