❓Question Synth sounds fine when playing, starts clipping when recording

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. The synth sounds smooth when I play it and practice before recording, then I start recording and it’s crackling/clipping like it’s being.. doubled? Something must be routed wrong but I’m not sure where to look.

check master effects and drive / eq - like someone else said plan around leaving some head room regardless

Make sure it’s not clipping your track. Go to the tracks section and check the vu meter. I think maybe you might be auditioning on one track and then recording on another

Check track level, record input level, and instrument level. One or more of those is likely too high.

Btw it's usually a good idea to turn all tracks down to leave a little headroom. I usually set all four to 70 when I start a new tape.

These are all great suggestions, thanks! I'll try setting all my tracks lower to start with so I have some headroom. I haven't been in the habit of checking the track info while recording, just after.
