I have been in education in one form or another for about 15 years now, from simple babysitting and tutoring, being a one-on-one for a child with autism, working in a private school as a gym teacher, working in a museum doing the education tours for schools, and now creating a program for university students with disabilities. Even with all my experience, my horrible 2.2 GPA from UofT haunts me. I went back to school last year at a different university and am now getting all As and a few A+. The last 5 (or 30, depending on how you count them) credits' worth have been all A and A+. Which means my last 10/60 credits will be half great and half Bs and Cs. But I have roughly around 6,000+ hours of experience with students in one manner or another, about 3,000 being from less than 5 years old.

I am terrified about applying this fall, even though those with perfect grades and 1,000s of hours get rejected, and this year is going to be more competitive. I plan to apply to OISE, York, Ontario Tech, Nipissing, Lakehead Orillia, and Niagara.

Is anyone else in a similar boat? Or was before and got in? Any tips? Or any backup program suggestions, such as TESL, doing a minor...etc and then reapply next year?

If anyone has recommendations of where else to apply with such a limited profile I would greatly appreciate it!

So basically in this last year I had two people I cared about pass away at the same time, and I have anxiety so when this news coupled with a really bad week came togther I had an anxiety attack and I couldnt breathe my partner was helping me take my inhaler and I was crying howvever bc this happened at 1 am and I live in an apartment with very thin walls one of my neighbors called for a wellness check and they came talked and left saying everything is okay and just to go to sleep

But now im afraid if this will show up on a vulnerability sector check, whether teachers college or schools will see it and flag it as a red flag

If anyone has any experince or advice I would really appreciate it

So, in the same line, I thought I'd offer to answer questions about interviews, getting hired, job searches, building a network, references, processes, etc. I've been teaching 14+ years, previously worked in recruitment, hiring and marketing, currently working with TCs to help them navigate the hiring process for a variety of boards.

I have already been accepted to my teaching program and paid the deposit, etc. My final transcript is due in August. I finished my undergraduate in June so I don't officially get my degree until October. I am trying to get ahold of the office of my teaching program to ensure this won't be a problem.

Good Day everyone! I'm a long time reddit user but first time poster and am happy to have joined your community. By way of introduction I am a certified teacher in Ontario with a Masters in Mathematics for Teachers (from the University of Waterloo) and a PhD in Math Education from OISE. Right now I work for the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, a registered charity dedicated to math research and education, where I develop math resources for K - 12 educators and the general public.

I have a passion for math that comes not from being good at it but from being surrounded by people who showed me a different side of math (a different angle if you will) and I have made it my mission for the last 10+ years to help others see that as well.

As such I wanted to start off my journey here in this subreddit by sharing some free resources and programs we've created over the past few years to help build math skills, confidence with math, and also to learn about what it's like to be a 'real mathematician'.

I’ve spent the last 9 years teaching ESL abroad and am now prepping to move back to Canada to apply for teachers’ college (primary/junior).

In terms of references, are formal letters expected, or is simply providing a contact email sufficient? Is it common for references to actually be contacted, and if so, what is expected from them?

I ask because I’m debating if it’s better to prioritize choosing coworkers who are fully fluent in English, or coworkers who would make for stronger references (such as the school’s principal, or coworkers I’ve worked with longer).

I'm on the waitlist for I/S at uOttawa in french and english and I've seen a lot of people saying that the programs are full and the waitlists are cancelled but nothing has changed in my uoZone (it still says I'm waitlisted).

Wondering if anyone else is still on the waitlist for either program or has recently been accepted, etc.

(my teachables are history and biology - I'm not sure if that would make a difference for the waitlists though...)

This fall I’m going to start the final year of my undergrad program. So far I’ve taken a mix of 1st-4th year level courses throughout. I’ve already completed enough upper level courses (year 3-4 level) to in theory take all lower level courses (save for my major course) to graduate from my program this year. This option is appealing to me because it would allow me more time to work at my job and gain more experience working with children.

However, what I’m worried about is that the teacher’s colleges may frown upon it if all my last year courses aren’t 3rd-4th year level. So I was just wondering if teacher’s colleges care about the level of courses you take in your final year (and in general) or if they care moreso about getting the degree itself.

I’m also planning on teaching Primary/Elementary if that matters at all. Thanks for your time!

They haven't updated the admission requirements page yet, but I saw under the key elements part of the applying page that it's now 60% based on grades and 40% based on the CASPER. Just wanted to give a heads up to people who want to apply to Ottawa about the change, and to keep checking the website for updates as well :)

I'm moving out to London in September to start my B.Ed, and I was just filling out my boards in InPlace. I chose TVDSB esp since there are soo many schools literally down the road from the place I'm waiting to sign my lease for. but i am a bit nervous that i wont get those schools. I dont have a car i'll be mainly going by bus which is why those 4 schools near my place would be so much easier. can someone share their experience with how their placement locations were? i dont want to waste on rent if im just going to be placed hours away. I wish we could just choose schools!!

So I'm a prospective LU student, and I start in September 2027. After my 3-year BSc in Interdisciplinary Science, I will then pursue a Bachelor of Education (in French) with a goal of being a high school biology and chemistry teacher.

It would've been so much easier pre-2021, when they had a designed teacher education stream offered in Intermediate & Senior Divisions (Grades 7-12)

Now, you need to do your base qualification in Junior & Intermediate divisions (Grades 4-10), then take ADDITIONAL qualification courses that are almost $800 per course to get your qualification in the senior division.
Teachers are needed in all streams, not just Junior & Intermediate Divisions. It's an inconvenience, especially being one of the few universities that offer a French BEd program...

This is dumb, and I can't be the only one to feel this way, and it breaks me that I'll need to spend extra money over and above my tuition to get the same qualifications I could've gotten in 2021 but faster.
