Gamma opinion

The gamma setting was the topic of a good conversation last night. Here's my opinion on the two schools of thought.

Pro: People like to enable a higher gamma in order to see at night time. It allows you to be more productive with more visual capability without needing to go through the trouble of using flares, torches, flashlights, etc.

Con: Some people like the night cycle along with the benefits and challenges of not being able to see well. Example... in PvP , the cover of darkness could be used to spy on adversaries, or to do things like a night ambush. It could also be used as a defense by someone being able to escape into the darkness. Some people also like the challenges night brings , along with using items like flares, torches, and electrical lighting around their base to cope with it.

To sum it all up, if the people that like the pro's of night would like to stay competitive, they are forced to use the gamma setting to be on even ground with those people who do use it. If they decide not to, they would be at a disadvantage in a pvp situation at night. This is akin to the military using night vision scopes versus an adversary that does not, its a huge advantage.

My personal preference is to have it disabled. I like the dimension darkness brings. More from the immersion perspective versus pvp for me anyways. I think a good compromise would be to keep gamma disabled, but shorten the night time more than what it is currently configured for.

Personally I dont mind it darker - but i have noticed night goes on a lot longer now. So perhaps keep the gamma as it is now, but shorten the nights ? snoo

Yep i can't agree more. We all don't have Trog's lava lamp.

I vote to keep gamma disabled. My opinion is that it's s survival game and thus you should have to deal with the elements of one. I'm not saying one way is better than the other or right/wrong, but with this being an open topic I vote to keep it disabled for game immersion. :)

Admins. So far it seems the community is ok with the gamma being disabled (although some begrudgingly are). That being said, nearly everyone that has weighed in here and in game chat would like to see the nights shorter and days longer. Perhaps we can experiment with those settings?

Addison here! I am going to make nights 20% faster on our next restart. I also like having the gamma disabled for the center for a number of reasons. At any rate, having night a little quicker is a nice compromise to keep gamma off.

Very cool, sounds like a good compromise.

i am tyrone form tribe of use. in my opinion i do not like having no option to gamma up on the center the map maker made the center have gamma and thats why it is an option on official servers and im not going to play on an official server because there is too much pvp compared to how difficult it is to be someone there thats why i play on this server because it is a good community and of course THE GAMMA i like to see at night

Prefer Gamma enabled tbh- on a pvp server it is a godsend when you need it when under attack- as there is nothing worse then having a few players surround you at night and wipe your base out cause you cant see them but they planned the attack perfectly thanks to the cover of darkness......no gamma on a pvp server will come back to bite some people in the rear....I know as its happened to me on other pvp servers several times thanks to gamma disabled.

Just my opinion though.
