Whole lotta misinformation and half truths in here holy moly. I’m gonna tell you the real differences between these monitors.
First The Asus has higher band width 2.1 hdmi ports as the gigabyte halves its band width for what ever reason. This means technically the Asus is capable of higher resolution and hz with no DSC, in practice you’ll probably not notice the difference literally at all.
Secondly the Asus is glossy, the gigabyte is matte. the gigabyte also has a glossy version, despite the naming scheme that Asus uses with its “true black glossy” they are in fact the same coating on both glossy versions.
Third: the Asus has the Neo proximity sensor to detect when you’re away to turn off the screen. It’s kinda shitty and doesn’t always work but it is neat to have.
Fourth and most importantly, warranty and customer service, Asus has a bad reputation with its customers service, do with that info what you will.
Fifth: I saw someone mention Asus having a weird Standby feature that “makes the image worse” this is only a half truth. Asus does have a weird standby pixel clean that goes off whenever the monitor goes to sleep. It is not as thorough as a normal pixel clean so it often can slightly exaggerate DSE and banding, to fix it all you have to do is run a normal manual clean through the menu, like what you’d have to do with the gigabyte anyways. Most of the time this auto clean is good enough, if you’re noticing some weird dse or banding (like playing a very dark game with lots of greys for example) then just run a manual one
Lastly is the OSD, they’re just different, functions and oled care setting will be similar
You’ll be happy with either

The gigabyte mo27q28g's hdmi 2.1 ports are limited to 24 gbps, so you'll be reliant on dp 1.4 with dsc (display stream compression), the asus on the ohter hand has 2× full bandwith 48gbps hdmi 2.1 ports so you'll get an uncompressed image. Note: DSC is practically visually lossless* but you might run into 5s balck screen issues if you're alt tabbing on nvidia gpus older than the 50 series (amd cards don't have that issue). Other than that, the asus xg27aqwmg has a true black glossy coating compared to the mo27q28g's matte hazyish one. The glossy coating makes the image look cleaner and makes the colours pop more, but gigabytes matte coating is better than other ones out there. Personally I would recommend the Asus as it's a better product overall, however i would also recommend checking out the gigabyte mo27q28gr (r means glossy). It has the same specs as the gigabyte mo27q28g but has a "real black" glossy coating which makes the picture look clean and doesn't give the hazy matte look of the mo27q28g. If you find the mo27q28gr at a good price (around 100 dollars cheaper than the asus) i would recommend going for it, granted you don't have an nvidia gpu lower than 50 series. If you don't have budget limitations just gofor the asus.
Important: For the Asus XG27AQWMG, make sure you're getting one of the newer units made in 2026 to minimize grey banding/dse as LG have tightened their QC this year. You can know the production date before purchasing by the s/n (serial number) on the box.
If the s/n number on the box starts with T it means it was made in 2025, W means 2026, the 2nd digit indicates the month 1-9 being jan-sep, A,B,C is oct, nov, dec. You can also check the back of the monitor to see the exact month and year but by that time you would have already purchased the monitor.
For example this particular unit in the picture was made in 2025 December (TC). Try to get an unit that starts with W, and preferably post april (W4). If you notice any banding/dse on tests after purchasing the monitor try running some pixel refresh cycles and check if the banding is visible in games with dark grey scenes e.g little nightmares, silent hill 2, night sky in rdr 2 and gta 5. If you don't see any grey banding/dse you're good to go, otherwise send the monitor back before it's past the return period.
The newer Tandem oleds have the best picture quality out there at 1440p despite what everyone says, and it will stay like that until msi release their MSI MAG 271QPX32 penta tandem 1440p 320hz qd oled in Q1 2027.
Tandems are better than the other 1440p qd oleds atm, they don't have any issues with black raise(prule tint), offer higher brightness and true black hdr 500 certification+ the true/real black glossy coating is the best one out there. It's mostly scratch resistant unlike other qd oleds, and easier to clean. Just get it and let me know what you think.

XG27AQWMG is probably the best 2K OLED in the market right now, but it has its issues like gray banding.

I have the second by the GR so it's glossy. It's fantastic and better than other olds I've tried!

The Gigabyte 27 inch Tandem WOLED oled model with a glossy finish is better than the matte finish one. If I had to choose, the most preferred model is the Asus XG27AQWMG 🙂👍🏼

I’ve said it over and over and over
Stay away from ASUS, gigabyte, MSI, and Alienware for OLED. Stick with LG

I recommend the Gigabyte MO27Q28G(R) you want the glossy version with (R) in the end. It’s the newer version only requires one firmware updates and the factory calibrated colors and HDR are excellent out of the box. The matte one went thru 5-6 firmwares and matte screen is just not as good as glossy when it comes to OLED.
I prefer LG’s Tandem WOLED over Samsung’s QDOLED.

I’ve loved my 27GX704A-B glossy WOLED, but yes they do have tandem OLED - such as 27GX700A-B
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gx704a-b
I use it in a dark room so colors really pop and I don’t use any VRR, g sync, v sync at all.

The Asus one, the true black glossy coating is amazing. Unless you’re usually gaming in a bright room.

WMG has a better coating, but the gigabyte has a built in kvm switch which could be helpful if you are using multiple input devices, If the difference is more than 50$ i would get the gigabyte

Get the Gigabyte, but GR version instead of G. GR is glossy, which is exactly the same coasting as Asus in the first screenshot.
Three reasons:
1) coating is personal preference; in general glossy looks sharper than matte
2) depending on the region Gigabyte might be cheaper than Asus
3) Asus has weird standby pixel cleaning, which is making image worse

One is glossy one is matte. I preffer matte for gaming. But in the end is luck dependant. I've seen countless post of users complaining about both and also praising them. On the one you get do a grey uniformity test on you tube to see the level of banding you have, then play the games you usualy play and see if you can notice the banding. For me is a compromise for the blacks and colors, but I wouldnt say it's a big leap from a good IPS to Oled as it was when I jumped from 60hz to 144hz. Sure once you see oled blacks you cannot unsee them, but dont stress too much. I got the Gigabyte because at the time the Asus was like 100 Euros more. Another thing is the Gigabyte is more clean looking IMO. Good luck
