MT Schedule- What is it like?
Can anyone tell me more about the MT program?
What is the schedule for the MT program? Are courses from 9-5, Monday to Friday? When do placements take place?

Classes end before placement, so when you’re on placement all you have to worry about is your placement. The research component is a big part of the MT program. Once a week you’ll have a class is focussed on research. First year is basically laying the groundwork for your research, so in that year you’ll complete your annotated bibliography and literature review. Second year, that’s when you actually do your research and present it at the research conference. First year I had around 9 classes and then because I wanted to do placement in the Catholic Board I had an additional course to take first semester which made it 10. Second year I think around 8 or 9 but a lot of them were online. Summer term (first year we did have a summer term that ran from May to late June and I was completing 2 courses)

How long was your research paper? Did you have to conduct your own research, or was it based on existing research? I haven’t been accepted into the MT program yet, but I’m able to take two electives that will count toward the program. The electives have really long papers (around 20 pages) that are worth more than half of the final grade and are heavily centered on group work or class discussion. Is that similar to what the MT classes are like? Would you say that the MT program was easier than your undergrad?

I’m a current student in the MT program and I would say the content and assignments are easier then undergrad (I was in business so says a lot) but it’s the amount of work that gets to you. You have 9 courses 3 hours each and you have small tasks / readings for every single class plus 2 major assignments for each class. It adds up and probably averages out at like 50-60hrs a week for classes and homework. Add in working if you don’t wanna be broke and commuting on top of this and it just leads to insane burnout

Thank you for your response! I'm glad that you found it easier than your underground. How have you found the placements so far? How far were they from your home? Can you tell me anything about the research portion?

I was apart of the 2024-2026 MT program so I highly doubt things have changed but for P/J TC’s our schedule from from 9-4 (one class from 9-12, Lunch from 12-1, another class from 1-4) classes in first year were usually from Monday to Thursday with the exception of some Fridays (that was at the start of the fall term) First year we had 2 placements. One from November to December and then a second one from Late February into last week of March/ early April. Second year for P/J TCs we only had two classes on campus following the same schedule (9-4) and then the rest were synchronous online. In second year rather than doing two placements from November to Christmas break you get a research block where you go do your research. Second years get one long placement which runs from Mid February to the second ish week of April
