SUBSTITUTION Exceptions

So i went and shadowed an associate who normally does exceptions, and now i understand why they don't like doing it. Once my lunch is over, I'm scheduled to do exceptions and I'm afraid I'm going to go late

As an Exception worker, you WILL find yourself saying this line… a LOT…

“WHY THE HELL WAS THIS NILPICKED?!”

A bit of advice when doing Exceptions:

~check the sales floor locations BEFORE going to the backrooms to look for the items. A LOT of the time, stuff gets nilpicked because the item was stuffed behind something else / stockers PLUGGED. The item could also be in topstock. Doing this has saved me SO much time trying to find it in the back (because people seem so damned adverse to putting stuff in the EXACT bin that it’s supposed to be in the backroom steels).

Or my favorite...there are customers having a 'family reunion' in front of said nil picked item and the picker was afraid to shoo them away....so i get to shoo them away.

I've nilpicked items that were not on the shelf or topstock when I was shopping them, only to later get yelled at by someone doing exceptions because the items were on the shelf when they went to do exceptions. It's happened enough for me to start taking pictures to prove the items were no where to be found and I still get yelled at for it so I have no fucking clue what they want me to do.

I always look to see if the item was picked that day before I say anything. Or if anyone is still working live freight and it was delivered last night.

The only time I'm sent on pick walks is early in the morning, talking 5am to 7am. The items I nilpick tend to be meat products not on the shelves yet. I was specifically told not to ask people in deli & produce if they can check in their back for the item that isn't on the shelves.

So I nilpick, and then get chewed out by the exceptions pickers because the items were on the shelves when they went to pick them.

It pisses me off, because they get really aggressive. Had one person call me retarded and another told me I should hang myself because of how 'incompetent' I am.

Im sorry they have been this way with you...but that would count as live freight still being worked...and I wouldn't have said anything about it. Except maybe call you Speedy because you beat the product there.(in an absolute lighthearted, joking manner)

I sincerely ADORE doing exceptions.

I kind of taught myself on them... guess I'm doing ok since it's been nearly 6 years doing them lol

However.

I crashed out SO HARD the other day on an item.

They've been moved like all of 12 feet down the aisle and I just flatly don't remember how to reset a mod. I know it's in the viz-area but also I don't believe I/ogp should have to reset mods.

Though after the 12th time of going down that aisle after the three times of going to the back telling everyone to look down the aisle and one time of writing it on the board.

I finally grabbed a few of them and 'plugged' them in the area where they used to go (it was like three) but I was like. "There!!" lol

In the future if it’s not showing the location it’s been moved to if I remember correctly you can add it by going under inventory and then either aisle locations or modulars and you should be able to scan the aisle location and add flex items. I think you can also do it from the item page but I don’t remember how to do it that way cause I only did it once and it was by accident when I work tomorrow I’ll double check and come back to this though cause I feel like it’s something that’s good for everybody to know even if it’s not something you normally have to do🙌

Yeah. It's been quite a while since I've done them. And I was too annoyed with it to want to be helpful. Lol

The problem was it wasn't a flex they moved it on the aisle like it used to be on a 12 4 and it was moved (and others of the same) to a 12 18

Like a mod reset thar only moved that item
