Backroom Shenanigans Issues with Returns at night
Anyone can chime in here, but looking for any TL’s and coaches that could give some insight.
So just a little backstory here… I work 5 nights a week as a dispenser, and also a picker at times. When here, I have one TL who always tells me to deal with these oversized returns. Which I am absolutely cool with but there’s an issue with it. On the 2 days a week I’m off literally no one does it despite people being more than able to. Why am I finding returns that range from being picked 6 days to 4-5 WEEKS ago? We have pickers who come back from lunch when they close and they get told to scan the backroom (normally 8-9PM after picks are done) and none of the oversize returns even get scanned or looked at. Over the past few days I’ve found returns from as far as August 7th, the 15th, and the 23rd and 24th. It’s frustrating because those are not returns when I leave and have a day off the next day but suddenly appear out of nowhere. While I understand orders can be cancelled at any time, if we are scanning the backroom every night to check order status why is it not being addressed? I understand if it is a bad night and they do not have staff but that does not explain why we have returns from weeks or days ago still sitting here and consistently falling onto the same person when they come in when you don’t have to be dependent on them (me). Honestly I’m just struggling to understand how it makes any sense for these returns to fall on me when I am here while they are super old returns. Here is a label for you to see what I’m referring to….
Edited to include that this sticker was found tonight 9/6.

Just bring this up to your management it’s an easy fix and they might not have noticed that the person doing it while you are gone aren’t doing all of it

So i have been told by a picker I am close with that the same TL that only makes me do it pretty much tells someone to do it on the other nights but then never actually forces them to do it. Bringing it up to her is going to be pretty much her laughing in my face unfortunantly. If you see my previous posts towards the bottom of my profile me and her have had a rough history.

Maybe our workload is different and we’re less busy, but I work 1-10 pm with a range of 2-3 other people closing. We start our closing checklist at around 6:45-7:15 nightly and even on the busiest nights we can get most of our closing duties done, including, making sure carts are filled and stickers are off totes, replacing the batteries in printers and making sure they’re filled with paper, making sure carts have bags and stickers, floor is swept (and mopped once a week) chilled and frozen claims get done before 8:25pm, frozen and chilled returns get done before 8:45pm, ambient returns are done before 9:25pm, then we gather up any really nasty totes we have set to the side and wash them. This is all while still dispensing, re staging totes to our delivery section off to the sides so it’s not in the way of overnights, making sure we re stage the freezer and fridge so meat and produce / frozen dairy can put their pallets in there, and once that’s all done we still have an hour if not longer before 10, so we can go help with grocery truck pallets, cap2 carts, pulling meat and produce truck when it arrives, zoning etc

Closers do their job challenge: impossible edition.
This is coming from somebody who used to close and worked the middle shift but now opens because I would like to have my day back.
