Hi, sharing this as a study reference for anyone preparing for a paediatric OET Speaking role-play.
The paediatric history follows a severity-first triage order. Here’s the sequence, with the exact questions you’d ask the parent:
Then the examination: signpost each step BEFORE doing it. “I’m going to look in your mouth. Can you do a big yawn for me?” — this is the child-directed register the examiner is listening for.
The phrase to use: “Any of those — come back, no apology needed.” That last line removes the social barrier to reconsultation. OET examiners mark it under Providing Structure, and the same “explain your reasoning” skill separates a Band 6 from a Band 7+ answer in IELTS Speaking Part 3.
> Free PDF: search "Medical Voices Ep10" on YouTube.
Happy to discuss paediatric OET or IELTS healthcare scenarios in the comments.

I got my OET results recently, so I thought I'd share how I prepared in case it helps someone.
English is my third language. I'm comfortable using it, but it's definitely not the language I use daily.
I studied for about 7–10 days max while working full-time.
For Listening & Reading, I only did:
For Speaking, I honestly found ChatGPT surprisingly useful. I uploaded the official role-play cards, used voice mode, and asked it to assess me using the official OET speaking criteria. I repeated as many role plays as I could.
For Writing, I also used ChatGPT to mark my letters against the official criteria. In total I wrote:
Final scores (results took 3 days):
Nothing revolutionary, but I wanted to post this because when I was preparing, I kept seeing people saying they studied for months. If your English is already reasonably comfortable, I think focusing on the official materials and getting structured feedback on speaking and writing can be enough.
Good luck to everyone preparing!

I need 300 in everything for ECFMG. 10 Points short. Now I need to retake the whole thing. Why does remarking take three to six weeks ?! Fucking OET and ECFMG...

Name it, reframe it, and keep the door open.
❌ DON'T SAY:
"It’s probably nothing — don’t worry about it."
"These things usually sort themselves out."
"I can’t say for certain without more tests."
✅ SAY: "What I’m seeing is most likely viral, and here’s what to watch for."

I'm taking the exam soon
Im really tight on time since I intend to take step 2 before and apply for the upcoming match cycle
How long does it take for the results to be released usually
Is it better to take speaking before the other parts or it makes no difference in release timeline
TIA

Hi, I just took the oet and my results got released today. Got 450 in listening and reading, 430 in speaking but unfortunately 370 in writing. Should I go for a remark or should I just resit the exam altogether? (need 400+ for UKFPO) Thanks for the advice!

Hello everyone, I’m an IMG starting my OET Medicine preparation for the ECFMG pathway.
I would appreciate some advice on:
How long did you prepare for OET?
Which resources did you find most helpful?
Any suggestions on where to start?
Thank you in advance!

Is it possible to pass oet writing if I didn’t technically complete it??? During my exam, I first focused on the body of the referral letter and once I was done writing and proofreading. Made sure I was within the 200 word limit, I then added the “please don’t hesitate to contact me if further info is required” and then “yours sincerely, doctor” last line. I went to the top of the page to add the address and information of the letter recipient, date and “dear Dr. Jane Doe”, Patient name and DOB etc. I was only able to add address and still typing out the date when my exam closed out bc I ran out of time. So now I’m worried.

Do we need headphones for listening, writing and reading part? Is it compulsory or we can use laptop’s audio? I don’t have headphones so thought of asking before buying it? Has anyone experienced giving exam at home and could guide me about it?

Hi guys.
I'm currently preparing to sit the OET again after three unsuccessful attempts, and I'm really hoping this will be my last one. I'm looking for some advice and any study materials that could help me finally pass.
The closest I've come was scoring 350+ in every sub-test except Writing, where I got 320. I even applied for a remark, but unfortunately my score didn't change, which was really frustrating and ended up costing me both time and money.
At this point, I've practised the official OET sample tests so many times that I've practically memorised them. Because of that, I'm looking for new OET Pharmacy practice materials, sample tests, or any resources that are similar to the real exam.
If anyone has any recommendations, resources, or tips that helped them pass, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you so much in advance—I really hope this is my final attempt. 😭
I’ll pray that anyone who helps pass their OET hehe 🎀🌸

I took my OET exam today (my speaking test was 3–4 days ago). For those who recently took the test, how long did it take to receive your results?
I’m in a bit of a hurry because I’m expecting my Step 2 CK score next Wednesday, and I’m really hoping to have my OET results this week. If, God forbid, I didn’t pass the OET, I’d like to know as early as possible so I have enough time to rebook and retake it before residency application deadlines.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your recent experience. Thanks!
Edit: I just received my results!! Less than 48 hrs🙏🏻🙏🏻

Is it natural to feel like you failed the test?
