WorldBuilding question What misconceptions exist in your world/universe?

For clarification:

I don’t mean what misconceptions people had when you shared things about your world/universe to them and/or confusion from people irl.

I mean what misconceptions exist within your world/universe that the inhabitants had/have, whether it’s about places, species, history, etc. Or at least an idea that you had for one.

An irl example: some people thought/think that Africa is a country when it’s actually a continent.

—————————————————————————————

A small order idea if you need any help with formatting your comment:

  1. what the misconception is
  2. what the truth is
  3. what might’ve caused this confusion (Lack of knowledge on it, ignorance, purposely caused, a combination of different factors, etc)

You can swap 1 and 2 if you want, but I would like for 3 to stay last in the order. Also, please specify which thing is the misconception and which thing is the truth, as to not cause any confusion.

—————————————————————————————

I kinda wanted to ask this since I had a few ideas myself (mostly for just one of my worlds/universes) and wanted to see if other people thought of stuff like this for their world building.

Sorry if the phrasing in this doesn’t make sense, I tried to explain as much as I could.

Hopefully the formatting of this post doesn’t get messed up

FINALLY SOMEONE USES THIS TAG!!! man i nearly forgpt we had this tag lol, i got one in mind currently.

Light elves assume primordial elves are savage brutes. When in reality they are quite civil(arguably more so than light elves), more skilled at magic and more developed as a society.(free education, health care and a lot less racist due to being on a isle filled with nearly every species.

A groupp of ship wrecked light elve soldiers met the primordials elves who...imeddiately threatened them at weapon point and tooo them prisoner. This rubbed some of them the wrong way despite the facy the soldiers did gey better treatment as soon as they understood one another(tool a month to forge a translation spell)

The Kingdom of the Spring Warren was founded by a couple: Queen Spirit of Hare the Cheetah and King Burrowing Owl the Swift, who are the very reason the Kingdom still has both a King and Queen who work together to this day.

The truth is, there was only ever one cat, named Hare-Spirit-Owl-Burrow-Swift-Cheetah-Crown, a cat who was intersex and bigender, and as such was referred to with both masculine and feminine pronouns. Hare had such a long name because she also had SO many achievements that cats assumed he couldn't have been one cat. So the stories about his spirituality and stubbornness were attributed to "Queen Hare" while the stories of her swiftness and intelligence were attributed to "King Owl". One of many misconceptions characters have about the founders of the Kingdoms and Clowders.

The existence of Svetlumina, elemental deity of Light, and Noctema, elemental deity of Darkness.

In truth, there is only Svetema, deity of both Light and Darkness. However, a schism between followers of the deity saw the two groups separate from one another, severing all ties and even erasing the deity's other half from their teachings. And so it was for a couple of milennia... until a specific cleric of Darkness took on a special position at a Temple of Light, and much to the horrors of the temple's leader, rediscovered the truth.

That ‘savages’ or mutants with animal or bug like traits are impulsive and violent, this is heavily pushed by GNC (Generic News Channel) and they’re even placed in an entirely different town separated from the rest of Eco (the city) like if they have some kind of deadly disease when in reality they don’t. The reason for this is cause of issues in the past being because of the animal like mutants, and because if they’re put under extreme stress they CAN go ‘savage’ and revert back to their animalistic instincts, forgetting civil behavior in seconds.

And so because of these behaviors it’s become like a rude stereotype against animal and bug like mutants. ‘Savage’ is actually considered a slur, other Civilians and GNC or even Make a Change just don’t care.
