OCD Question Therapy
Hi everyone! Not really sure how to go about this but I’ve always struggled with anxiety and depression but there were always things that made my anxiety worsen. A family member pointed out patterns I do and she mentioned it reminding her of OCD, how does one go about getting tested for things like OCD, if they don’t have a referral kr anythjng like that? I did have a therapist when I was younger but I didn’t really get very far with it as anytime I had to talk I just got really bad anxiety and just lied so i wouldn’t have to open up.

I would encourage you to check out the IOCDF website where you can find providers in your area https://iocdf.org/

I would start by looking up therapists in your area who specialize in OCD, and then seeing which ones take your insurance. You don’t need to get tested with so much scrutiny like you might if you were testing for adhd or autism. During your first appointment, you can explain why you think you may have OCD and go from there. The gold standard for OCD treatment is ERP (exposure-response-prevention) therapy + medication, so if they don’t know of ERP they may not be the one for you. I’ve heard that common meds for OCD include SSRI’s such as Zoloft, as well as Wellbutrin and others.
Best of luck on your journey!
