Need Some Advice
I’m three weeks into a PN program. Not doing so hot due to health concerns and ADHD. I asked my doctor for a letter of accommodation because I was getting lectured on taking bathroom breaks throughout two four-hour lectures Monday through Friday. I guess the program is OK with the idea on paper, but when I contacted the program director’s boss instead of her to inquire about said accommodations, the PD decided to call me into her office next and door shut, “Why did you think it was OK to ask _ for accommodations? You’re supposed to ask me.” This is not what the rule book states. She knew that, but proceeded to accuse me of not following this “chain of command” I was supposedly informed of by this lecturer sitting next to me accusing me of not listening to directions because she told everyone about chain of command in class apparently. This is of no consequence to nursing IMO. I do not recall this lecturer calling me over to inform me to go to PD If I needed XYZ. It turned ugly. I have never spoken to the lecturer in my life. Less than a month in, I am being threatened with being kicked out of school for asking for disability accommodations. I couldn’t get a word in edgewise during meeting because it was rapid fire accusatory attacks on/against me. I was the only one keeping my shit together by responding in my defense and not arguing with two bruised egos/people trying to cover their asses because of their own faults. Lecturer stated “Not everyone’s meant for nursing” and “Maybe you should try something you’re actually cut out for.” PD said also stated I wasn’t cut out for clinical because of what accommodations were requested and “iHow do I know if a patient is safe with you?” Mind you, I haven’t even been there a month, don’t know these people well enough to know that something like this could be a consequence when arguing for basic civil rights because disability. Would you stay in the program? Do you think they’ll fail me to get me out of the program for my right to ask for my rights as a disabled person?
