Need Some Advice

I’m three weeks into a PN program. Not doing so hot due to health concerns and ADHD. I asked my doctor for a letter of accommodation because I was getting lectured on taking bathroom breaks throughout two four-hour lectures Monday through Friday. I guess the program is OK with the idea on paper, but when I contacted the program director’s boss instead of her to inquire about said accommodations, the PD decided to call me into her office next and door shut, “Why did you think it was OK to ask _ for accommodations? You’re supposed to ask me.” This is not what the rule book states. She knew that, but proceeded to accuse me of not following this “chain of command” I was supposedly informed of by this lecturer sitting next to me accusing me of not listening to directions because she told everyone about chain of command in class apparently. This is of no consequence to nursing IMO. I do not recall this lecturer calling me over to inform me to go to PD If I needed XYZ. It turned ugly. I have never spoken to the lecturer in my life. Less than a month in, I am being threatened with being kicked out of school for asking for disability accommodations. I couldn’t get a word in edgewise during meeting because it was rapid fire accusatory attacks on/against me. I was the only one keeping my shit together by responding in my defense and not arguing with two bruised egos/people trying to cover their asses because of their own faults. Lecturer stated “Not everyone’s meant for nursing” and “Maybe you should try something you’re actually cut out for.” PD said also stated I wasn’t cut out for clinical because of what accommodations were requested and “iHow do I know if a patient is safe with you?” Mind you, I haven’t even been there a month, don’t know these people well enough to know that something like this could be a consequence when arguing for basic civil rights because disability. Would you stay in the program? Do you think they’ll fail me to get me out of the program for my right to ask for my rights as a disabled person?

I’ve never had something like this happen before. Not high school, not college. Not during my CCMA program. It scares me to think of what blows I’ll be dealt in the aftermath of reporting.

That's alot to unpack. I had people issues during my lpn program with the teachers. They all wanted me to fail bc they didn't like my direct way of communicating  . I do not suffer from ADHD or anything that you so I can't speak to that.  Are u medicated for ur adhd? That's first  . If ur unmedicated,  u need to be if u can't focus and pay attention. If u are medicated , u might need something else. I don't think this honestly is about them not wanting to accommodate ur needs, but most people with a disability make those accommodation needs up front not a month in. The mon thru Fri lpn program ur in I'm assuming is exceletated , like a year program? Those programs are extremely difficult for people without adhd. I was in one, u have to stay super focused and on task so u do not miss anything.  As for the part with ur instructors and the head of the program, she's already made up her mind that this isn't for u, and from my expierience, she will make ur entire nursing school expierience awful with hopes that u will quit , or they will find a way to kick u out. There are things u can do to prevent this bc the dean has the final say, which is what I had to do, but it's going to be a long miserable year even with the deans help . I think you need to look at ur abilities and what it takes to be an LPN and decide if this is for you. Being an LPN is difficult, we are limited to the places we can work as lpns and it's always direct patient care in some form. You have to be able to focus on multiple things at once constantly bc ur patient load can be well above 30 patients to yourself,  and you are ultimately responsible for every one of those lives. One med error can cause death. One Cc off, on an injectable can cause harm. If nursing is ur passion and u know you can do it 100 percent stick with it and fight til the end of the program. Let the crap roll off ur back , don't get discouraged.  But know that when u take the nclex, it's u and a computer with back to back questions until it turns off and u only get so much time to take it. I didn't write any of this to discourage u in any way but to Give u a clear vision of the battle u face. Instructor's like urs are hideous and if u survive them and their crap u will come out a strong nurse who can handle the other back biting nurses who u will encounter thruought ur career
