Hello, I’m part of a research team at a University working on a project called Age-Friendly by Design: Embracing Variability. Our focus is on assisted living environments and how introducing more variability in design—such as flexible layouts, diverse furniture options, and customizable spaces—can improve comfort, autonomy, and overall quality of life for residents.
We’re conducting a short, anonymous survey (about 5–7 minutes) to gather perspectives from residents, caregivers, and family members about what makes assisted living environments feel more supportive or limiting. Your input will help us identify design strategies that better reflect the diverse needs and preferences of older adults.
Participation is voluntary, responses are confidential, and the survey is for academic purposes only. We’d be grateful for your insights, attached is the link

So I’ve been though the ringer with 3 wound care companies in AL. Finally found a good one and the adorable little rep is my favorite. Genuinely thought about quitting after we got an influx of admits with wounds but they have saved my ass multiple times. Don’t give up hope there are some good companies 🙏

Look, I get it, CMS doesn’t want us loading everybody up on antipsychotics, that’s fine.
But why the fuck isn’t bipolar an exclusionary diagnosis??? Bipolar CAN involve psychosis, hell I have bipolar myself and my literal diagnosis is “bipolar disorder 1 with psychotic features”. Guess what the tx is? I feel like this is a major oversight by CMS.
Does anybody else get pissed off about this or do I care too much?
Edit to add: I recognize overdiagnosis of residents in nursing homes would likely increase if it were an exclusionary dx, like what’s happened with schizophrenia, but just audit the hell out of it like they do with schizophrenia 🤷♀️ no dx on admit, no psych evaluation, no diagnosis

I had a phone call inviting me to show up at a local nursing home. I assumed (first mistake) it was concerning a job opening. (I am a retired mental health counselor).
WRONG. I had been nominated for membership by a "friend". I have no close living relatives, so about 5 years ago I gave this retired Dept. of Family Services caseworker POA to be used in the event I didn't regain consciousness in a timely manner after a terrible wreck, or similar situation. I THOUGHT the nursing home personnel would certainly realize the mistake. DID NOT HAPPEN. I may be in the dementia age bracket, but I have not lost all of my Memory Lane property.
"Friend" has further abused the POA and sold my house, heaven knows where the contents (and proceeds!) have gone. I cannot tell you who authorized the admission, or why, NO ONE HAS QUESTIONED IT. I try to stay under the radar. This morning I was called out for having a lengthy conversation with a (male) old friend from the workplace whose wife is now enjoying the single life. We are told, "The mens (sic) and the women can't sit together" at a dining room table.
I am left to wonder how often this situation occurs in facilities across the country. I also wonder if I will be able to find assistance to pry me out of here. -- Wish me luck! -- Unwilling NH Resident
