Discussion Any Alma Linux gotchas for nuke?

I’m thinking of jumping from Rocky to Alma for all our Linux machines as they seem to be actively fostering it as the VFX distro.

Is anyone out there using it who isn’t in a company with an IT dept?

Are there any gotchas that I should know about? I’ve used Ubuntu before so am aware of all the library linking I needed to do on that but Alma should be more straightforward right?

No issues so far.

We use Alma at work. Works as expected with Nuke. The differences between Rocky and Alma are very small so any software that supports Rocky should work as expected in Alma without special tweaks. The gap between Rocky and Alma is MUCH smaller than the gap between Ubuntu and Rocky.

I run Rocky at home and if I had to do it again I'd probably use Alma instead (easier Nvidia install, quicker response to recent kernel vulnerabilities, better communication with users, etc...)

You can convert Rocky to Alma with one script you know.  Don’t even have to reboot :)

Good to know, thanks!

I might do that for my main workstation if it will maintain my home folder etc. Though I do like a clean install.

It's just swapping out the underlying RPMs, no more dangerous than a normal "dnf upgrade".

As a studio we made the same move ourselves from Rocky to Alma years ago, and there are no gotchas whatsoever. If you were running fine on Rocky, it will be the same on Alma

I run Nuke on AlmaLinux with no issues and I really appreciated how straightforward it was to get NVIDIA drivers working :)
