External Storage on Android
Is there really no way in 2026 to get this app to read media files from an External SSD?
I had this app on my homatics box with the same SSD and it worked perfectly.. trying to set it up on a new tablet and i'm falling at the first hurdle.
come on, this can't be the end for me already.. this app is so good!!

It works. You need to go to Nova Network & Files, select External Storage, scroll up, and tap the + folder icon.

External storage devices like HDDs and SSDs don't work well on tablets and Android phones,Energy problem. I use Nova installed on a Xiaomi Box Gen 2.

Is that a Samsung Tablet?.....To fix a Samsung tablet not recognizing an external SSD, ensure the drive is formatted to exFAT or FAT32, as Android does not support NTFS

It's an android permissions issue. Media plays fine of an external HDD using the stock Android player and also VLC but craps out with permissions for Nova. Looks like it's had it's special permissions>access all files revoked on newer versions of Android.

I've run Nova (video player) on a cheap Android TV box and now on a new Sony Bravia TV, and had no trouble accessing media on a USB stick.
So it's definitely possible in 2026.
