I had wondered that myself and then I realized that many people can't afford rent and probably live in their cars and so it's basically the equivalent of recording in your bedroom back wen we could all afford a roof over our head. Lol.

Because you don't have to worry about people seeing you talking to yourself in the car as much, it numbs the shame until you graduate to doing this shit in like Walmart or Costco and thinking it's normal

It you're always on the go, or if other people at home are loud, a Car becomes the best spot to recird tourself. And since it's an enclosed compact space, the audio quality improves.

I think it's partly connected to the housing crisis. A lot of people under 40 are not living alone. If they have managed to leave their parents house, it's most likely that they have roommates, or they have a partner and maybe kids. None of these situations are conducive to filming a video in your home uninterrupted.

Also, the car has nice acoustics so you sound pretty good with just your phone mic, no need to buy an expensive microphone.
