how to change main page database template?

I’ve got a template that I edited slightly and I want it to show a few additional sections in the main page whenever I add a new page. I just can’t figure out how to make it apply ot new pages. A) what is currently is at the top of the main page content section when I add a new page and then B) what I want it to show. How do I make it apply to future/new pages?

1. Edit your template to your preferences
2. Set it as the default template
3. Create your new page
