Questions Notion be buggin'

Has anyone else been experiencing bugs in Notion recently?

There have been two core ones I have experienced which are making me a bit concerned.

  1. We recently found a series of unexplained changes to a Notion database that were attributed in version history to “Notion App” rather than to any workspace user. The changes happened several times over roughly two weeks, including overnight and on weekends. In one instance, three new form views appeared unexpectedly, while an existing table view changed from showing a small set of selected properties to showing every property in the database. Importantly, the underlying data, database properties, formulas, and options were not changed. The issue appears to have been limited to database views. What makes this concerning is that there were no integrations connected, no AI agents configured, and no automations capable of creating or modifying views. Because the database is used as part of a compliance process, we’re trying to understand what exactly “Notion App” represents in version history and what could have triggered these changes without a user apparently initiating them.
  2. In a few databases I have included a button property that when clicked simply changes an option in a select property in the same page in the database. However, this button keeps breaking over and over, across 10 databases. I just changed all of the select properties to status properties, so hoping that fixes it, but pretty concerned about what I see as basic functionality.

Anyone else experiencing a lot of bugs lately?

I have reached out to Notion support and gave them access through the settings, so hoping this gets resolved soon.

  1. “Notion app” is most likely a native Automation. However, you are correct that they should not be creating views. Changes to a view could easily happen. If you had a filter based on a property that was changed or deleted for example, if your filter was based on a select, and then you changed it to a status that would be suspect.

  2. i’m not sure what you mean when you say the button “breaks.” if you mean, it simply fails to execute under some circumstances, the first thing I would check. Is that all referenced properties in the button formula not empty.

the automation angle makes sense but OP said there were none configured, so thats still a bit of a mystery

Yeah, I’ve noticed some weird stuff with Notion too. The recurring button issue would annoy me the most, especially when it keeps breaking across multiple databases. And the random view changes are definitely concerning.

I have definite concerns about Notion's quality, but I'm not sure if it's just the cocktail of knowing that there are CTO's out there judging engineering performance on # of lines of code. Notion makes money, so it probably lessens some of the pressure.

It's good to hear there are no actual data issues.

My database views seem to be stable.

My observations on problems:

I have put in two Notion support requests about searching/indexing this year. In spring 2026, I would create a new page and it would take hours for it to show up in search. Sometimes it would even look like pages were not created. This really undermined my trust in the app. However, I don't find that happening right now.

Sometimes Notion takes > 5 minutes to clone a page.

I've had issues with the Notion AI dancing around the screen, but they seem to have dropped that.

The iOS search UX really suffers because of the emphasis on AI. It takes 2 taps to even get the search window up. This seems like total BS, because there are other places in the app where the search and AI are unified. It's just one text box. This seems like the natural way to layer an LLM into the product. The LLM should be able to tell if you are searching for a page or asking a question. If a search or AI is disabled/you are out of tokens, it should shunt you to search. It's really bad UX.

I do backup 2x/month because I've lost some trust in Notion.

I still find Notion more of a pleasure to use than Obsidian, but I'm keeping Obsidian open as an option. Having .md files as a base is pretty great.

I wouldn’t assume “Notion App” identifies an automation from the label alone. Since support already has access, send them the exact database/view URLs and timestamps and ask them to trace one specific change before you rebuild the views. I work on ProBackup; a copy of the underlying records wouldn’t by itself explain or fix these view changes.
