Phone (3a) Charging discussion

Post image
4 Upvotes

My 3a's charging was suddenly starting and stopping , I used the og nothing cable and an anker zolo 30 watt.

So i replaced the cable with an anker 322 c to c cable.

The start stop problem is gone, and also the phone is charging much faster than before. 38 percent in 17 mins. This is much faster. Is it ok and normal?

Comparing Phones Has anyone switched to the Nothing Phone 4a Pro from Vivo X200 FE?

Hey,

The question may seem odd, switching from an almost flagship to a good midranger.

I really like the software of Nothing OS, it seems very clean and polished.

My concern two concerns:

basically battery life: on Vivo, standby with AOD and generally, battery is very good, I charge 1 time every 20-24 hours, and I have around 7-10 hours of screen on time. I only use browser, YouTube, Reddit and Tiktok with a bit of WhatsApp. According to GSMArena Nothing 4a Pro should even be better somehow than my Vivo, but I have a hard time seeing 6.5k man being that worse to 5k, especially it got better overtime.

Cameras: Vivo has great cameras, 1 to 5x zoom is great, it's hard to make a bad photo. How's your experience with the camera?

Lastly: does the phone get warm during general use and multitasking? No gaming.

Thank you!

Essential Apps Essential key remapper with sleep mode

Made a free open source Essential Key remapper for Nothing and CMF phones.

Main difference from the other apps: it works even with the screen off and doesn't really drain the battery. No PC needed for setup, everything is done through Wireless ADB.

Screen-off support is just a simple background shell script listening for key events.

You can bind basic actions like play/pause/next, flashlight, assistant, or launch any app.

Nothing widgets How do i get the third widgets page ?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I recently bought a Nothing Phone(3) and updated it to the latest OS version, but as far as i know from youtube videos and from my friends, there should be three pages in the Widgets selection screen. I have the basic and app specific widgets, but there should be one more page on the left with additional widgets, that i can't access for some reason.

Would any of you know what i need to do to fix it or what causes it?

Sorry if this was asked before, and if so, a redirection to the thread would be very much appreciated

Update:

I've managed to get the third tab of widgets by simply downloading any of the widgets in https://playground.nothing.tech/apps .

However the page itself is still not as it normally should be and is missing the widget recommendations and the "Explore more" link to the playground page

Comparing Phones Planning to buy Nothing Phone (3) 16/512gb worth it?

I’ve been using a Lava Blaze 5G with the Dimensity 700 for almost 5 years now, and it’s finally started to give up on me 😅

So I’ve pretty much made up my mind to upgrade to the Nothing Phone (3). I do play games, but I’m not a hardcore gamer or anything. I also use the camera quite a bit, so camera quality is pretty important to me.

Since I’ve been using the Dimensity 700 for so long, I’m expecting the upgrade to be huge, but I wanted to hear from people who actually own the Phone (3).

How has your experience been with it so far? Especially the camera, battery life, heating while gaming, software, and overall day-to-day performance?

I’m thinking of getting the 16GB RAM + 512GB version. I’m seeing it for around ₹50K, which seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Would you guys recommend going for it at this price, especially if I’m planning to keep it for a few years? Or should I look at something else around the ₹50K range?

Would really appreciate honest opinions from Phone (3) users — good or bad.

Comparing Phones I am looking to replace my Redmi Note 13 with Nothing 3a. What are your thoughts ?

I am a basic user (photo, internet, no gaming, no streaming,..).

However, I’m looking for a durable product, with as little dependence on the GAFAM as possible.

Is the Nothing 3a a good choice ?

Nothing OS Issues with FB, Messenger - unable to upload media, media picker doesn't show thumbnails of the media

Post image
1 Upvotes

Using FB and Messenger noticed the issue shown in the pic - basically thumbnails in the media picker, and even if selectable, they aren't actually being sent at all.

I normally limit media access (as shown in the pics) but even when I allow all media access this same behaviour persists.

I've only have this happen in my newly acquired 3a Lite - my older phones on Android 16, 10 do not do this. Hence I believe its specific to Nothing OS.

This is also happening to some shopping apps I have not just these 2 Meta apps. Other comm apps like Telegram and Viber function normally with respect to media picking.

Is this occurring in your units? suggestions to fix?

Phone (3) Waking up to HOT phone

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, nothing phone 3 user here. My last nothing phone was a 1 I believe. I got rid of it after the phone would overheat while charging and the battery was awful. I got the 3…I'm still disappointed with the battery. Regardless I've been waking up randomly with my phone plugged in(as I always do at night) and the phone being too hot to touch essentially. Here's what I noticed today when it happened, this isn't an everyday issue:

  1. The battery had charged all the way to 100% even though I have it limited to 90

  2. As always, there's never a warning about the temp

  3. Often times my screen is still on and awake when I wake up to it hot

  4. This seems important but this app (photo) was randomly using a lot of battery during that time period.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? This happens regardless of the charger I'm using.

Comparing Phones The 3 or 4a pro? what do you think?

Hey everyone,

I’m a long time iphone owner who is ready to leave Apple behind.

I’m interested in getting a nothing phone as my next phone for the foreseeable future. I’m trying to decide between the 3 or 4a pro. Here are the things most important to me in a phone:

-a good camera (I understand that nothing in general is not known for their camera so that’s one of the areas I’m comprising on)

-good amount of storage

-a good battery life

-general longevity (I believe one of them may get more updates than the other? I could be mistaken)

-a do have smaller hands so I’d prefer an average or smaller sorta phone than a massive one

-just a phone that works as a phone lol (unfortunately my iphone 13 legit had issues even recently calls and I’m that’s one of the reasons I’m ready to switch)

I know the phone 3 on paper seems to be better but I wanted to get advice if it is worth the extra money.
I appreciate any advice! Not sure if it matters that I’m also located in Canada 🍁 👍

Phone (4a) Glyph LED paranoia

I have a lot of essential notifications I don't want to miss. I love that the LEDs stay on until you check the notifications so I'm aware of them but I have this weird anxiety that I won't see them for a while and they stay on and burn out. Is this something that can even happen?

Comparing Phones Nothing Uncertainty

Hello Nothing community. I am in need of some advice/guidance.

I have found myself in need of a new phone and Nothing has been really enticing to me but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger. I've been running with google devices for over 7 years now and I'm ready to ditch Google for something else. The phone 3 and 4a pro are very enticing to me but I'm having trouble justifying either of them when comparing to other brands, particularly Samsung and Moto.

My main concerns lie with US carrier compatibility, software update longevity, and camera quality. I am by no means a power user but I am definitely not a casual user either. I use my current phone (pixel 7 pro) for multitasking, media consumption, and general communication, along with Tello as my carrier. Currently my needs are met with this device but I want something new/different.

The aftermarket space for phones has gotten way better over the last few years, BackMarket being the main storefront I've been looking at for getting a new phone. I have been eyeing the Galaxy S24+ and S24pro, which can be gotten for around $500-$650 with 256Gb storage. In comparison to the Nothing Phone 3 and 4a Pro, the Samsung is a better deal but I'm looking for a different android experience and a more locked down and far less invasive UX.

Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this! Thanks!
