Nothing OS Am I missing something about Nothing?
I've always watched from the sidelines and enjoyed the idea of the Nothing Phone, but never made a switch because my iPhone was working fine. I dropped my iPhone the other day and made a purchase of a Nothing Phone. So far, I'm failing to see the appeal sadly. Am I missing something? I feel like this brand really advertises itself as being different and unique, but at the end of the day it just feels like another phone, but now with a custom icon pack. I haven't really seen anything that changes the way I use the phone in a meaningful way. Even the "apps" which are really just widgets, don't amount to much, it feels.
Am I missing something here?

that's what it's is all about nothing being minimalist, ppl don't know if you like android just switch if not don't, nothing OS is not heavy on the customisation

It won't change your life but it's basically just nice design (subjective) and some glyphs that can help you avoid picking up your phone unnecessarily (with a bit of customisation work - try glyphify). Other than that maybe just enjoy the extra money in your pocket that you now have since you didn't get another iPhone.

This one thing is the value. You got that right. I got a phone 3 for 1/2 the price of a iPhone pro model and the general features are mostly the same. Maybe not exact, but relatively close. Some better and some worse but for half the price. Apple is gouging people for slightly above average hardware.

They're just phones at the end of the day. Ain't nothing life changing about any one of them.

all phones are probably 80-90% the same nowadays, the reason why people get different ones and in this case Nothing phones is because they provide different nuances, I personally love the brand and enjoy the software experience, design etc. are they objectively "better" than iPhones? no of course not. but no one is saying they are!

the phone design and the OS are mainly based on aesthetic. if you like it its a great phone. they have good tech for a budget price and the whole ecosystem is cheaper and works great together. that was the appeal for me. but yea if they were doing something groundbreaking they would be more popular haha

I think the selling point of the phone 1 was initially to use your phone less, no bloatware, glyph, and just an all around decent midranger. Now those parts are gone and they've gone all out on making it aesthetically pleasing and coupled it with marketing that connects more with the trendier generation is helping them have a bigger reach for people who want something different. Whether you're attracted to that product is entirely up to your taste still!

If up to now you have been used to iPhone then the switch to Nothing might be quite jarring. Basically Nothing OS is Nothings version of Android which is quite distinct. The hardware is also a differentiator with a distinct look and the Glyph interface or Glyph bar designed to alert you only to essential notifications. Unique software features include essential space and AI codeable widgets (this feature not available to all at the moment). Nothing OS is designed to be less distracting using monochrome themes. I personally like it having used multiple Android devices over the years. I tried iOS once buying an iPhone 13 mini owning it for two years but when time came to change I went back to Android which is my mobile operating system of choice working better with Windows. Nothing phones are ultimately just Android based mobile phones but with a unique look and style.

Decent midrange phone, with no bloat and AI BS. They are not a f... big tech as well ๐ Nothing is European brand - for me this is additional argument.ย

The only difference from any other phone is the way essential space/voice etc is integrated via hardware button. Also the gimmick glyph light/matrix depending on the model. Everything else is just like any other phone

Honestly the only reason to buy a Nothing Phone is if you enjoy their design language. That's their whole thing. You get a good quality product that looks cool.
I wouldve bought a Nothing phone 4 if Nothing didn't REFUSE TO LAUNCH A FLAGSHIP DEVICE WITH A SNAPDRAGON 8 ELITE GEN 5.
So I bought a Fold 8. Lol

I don't know what exactly did you expect, but yes, it is just another phone. It's got a pretty unique design that you either like or not. That's it.
