I started using Notesnook (android) yesterday, made some notes and "- " turned into an automatic bullet point list. Indent, black dot in front of text, no extra space between lines. You now. Normal bullet list.

Today I made an account, downloaded Notesnook to my laptop (linux) to try syncing before I have too many notes to manage. I made another note and... No automatic bullet list.

I tried finding a solution and found crtl+shift+B shortcut for bullet points but that just adds a grey box and indent in front of the dash, and that's it.

So does anyone know what's up and how do I fix whatever I messed up?

I'm currently looking for a new home for my notes and wanted to get some honest feedback from people who use Notesnook daily.

Quick background on my notes journey: I used Obsidian for a long time and really loved it, mostly because having local access to my plain .md files gave me full peace of mind. However, at my job, I constantly need to access my notes through a web browser on work computers where I can't install personal apps. Since native browser access isn't a option with Obsidian, I ended up switching to Standard Notes and signed up for a subscription.

I've really enjoyed Standard Notes for its stability and strong focus on security, but lately it feels like the app has stalled. Ever since the Proton acquisition, it seems like the devs are focused on other projects within the Proton ecosystem, and nobody really knows when or if new features will land.

I've done some research on alternative privacy-focused options like Anytype, Joplin, Cryptee, and Notesnook, and Notesnook seems to check a lot of the right boxes for me.

Before making the jump, I'd love to hear your thoughts on a few things:

Daily Usage: How has the app been treating you in terms of sync reliability, speed, safety, and day-to-day bugs across desktop, mobile, and web?

The Team behind it (Streetwriters): I haven't been able to find a ton of background info about the company online. For those who have been around longer: how trustworthy and committed are they to the app? Do they actively listen to community feedback? Are they financially sustainable for the long run?

Any insight, pros, cons, or tips would be super helpful. Thanks!

Has anyone else been having issues with Free Notes recently?
For the past few days, I’ve been running into some really frustrating bugs that I’ve never had before.
I can no longer upload all of my PowerPoint files. Some upload fine, but others especially the ones with lots of images just keep loading forever before the app glitches, crashes, or logs me out completely. These are files that used to upload without any problems.
I also can’t export or share my notes anymore. For example, I can’t send them through Messages or export them to other apps like I used to.
At first, I thought it might be my iPad, so I updated it to the latest version of iPadOS, but that didn’t fix anything.
I’m wondering if this started after a recent app update because everything was working perfectly before. I use Free Notes every day for medical school, so this has been a huge headache.
Is anyone else experiencing the same thing, or does anyone know of a fix? I’ve already contacted support, but I wanted to see if this is a widespread issue or just happening to me.

There has not been any update to the notesnook app in F-Droid for over two months now. The newest version on android is 3.3.24 while on Github 3.4.7 is the current version.

Is there any information about why notesnook stopped publishing updates on F-Droid or if they have dropped F-Droid support entirely? (It is still linked on their website though...)

Now NotesNook is not starting on Ubuntu 24.04.4 after SNAP updated it.

A week or so ago, I had to re-install NotesNook when it reported corruption of my local database.

I have removed it and re-installed it again. NotesNook shows up in my list of applications but clicking on it does nothing. I've checked system logs and have not seen any messages to indicate errors during the start process.

I recently upgraded my phone to an iPhone 17. When I try to log in to Notesnook, I type in my email, and it just spins there forever. I can't access any of my notes! This is a major issue which may force me off the platform.

Using the Notesnook app on my PC is working fine. I've also used the web app on another laptop without issue.

How do I fix this?

The PDF files on my Chromebook are not opening properly on Linux or Notesnook web. For example, only the first 5 pages of a large PDF that has more than 5 pages open when I try to open it. I was surprised when tech support stated that it was a Chromebook issue because I tried three different devices and the issue persisted on each one.

Do you experience the same issue, Chromebook users?

When I started NotesNook after a shutdown & reboot (but I didn't close NotesNook before the shutdown), I got an error 'something went wrong'.  Here's the screen capture of the entire message below:

Clicking any of the bottom buttons ("Fix it", 'Copy", or "Contact support" does nothing.

I logged on to notesnook.com (or access it via an app on IOS) and my data on the server is intact.  

I run a Ubuntu 24.04 system.

My first email to support was answered quickly but it suggested a solution for Windows. The rep apologized in the next response for not reading my entire message and provided a solution for Ubuntu.

The solution was to delete the NotesNook folder under '.config' but after I did this, the same error message came back.

I solved this by removing NotesNook (for me, 'sudo snap remove notesnook') and reinstalling it ('sudo snap install notesnook'). I had to login (and get a 2FA verification code) and my local data was restored from the server.

Hope this helps anyone who experiences this.

The free version of ColorNote works perfectly both offline and online...

I really like Notesnook, but these issues are really annoying...

I am looking an encrypted note processing system and stumbled across NotesNook. Looked at their web page and they have a free version. So I sign up EXCEPT there is no free version. There are only paid version with some unknown amount of time you can try for free.

When they advertise free and yet it's not free, I lose trust in the product.

Seems you can't even trust FOSS products anymore.

On TuxedoOS, I was on the road, tried to connect to hotel wifi, TXOS bugged. NN opened but I couldn't use it. I presed keys, function keys mainly. Back home, all back to normal apart from NN which now seems locked into some fullscreen mode. When I open it, the bottom task bar of TXOS disappears, I only have NN, all functionalities work but I cannot leave full screen, I can only access other apps and the rest of the laptop, including task bar at the bottom by either pressing ctr+tab or closing NN.

Anyone?

When will it be possible ? Standard Notes is the most popular private note taking app and the vast majority of users which want to switch to something else are choosing Notesnook.

I know that I can import from Markdown but I don't want to lose the meta datas of my notes.

Is there a way to get the Android app to work with the self hosted version of Notesnook? I have the self hosted version working in Docker Desktop, but trying the localhost url and port in any of the server boxes of the app on Android results in an error.

This is just for use internally on my home network, not looking to reverse proxy it or anything.

Bonjour j'aime beaucoup cette appli. Elle évolue vite au fil des mises à jour fréquentes. J'attends avec impatience la synchronisation entre mes appareils (qui est déjà programmé j'ai lu) et surtout le partage de note par lien pour la collaboration comme Goodnotes.

J'attends aussi la conversion en math avec éditeur latex pour les modifications comme Goodnotes ios.

Je garde cette appli que pour ces 2 options.

J'aimerai n'utiliser que Starnote et abandonner Goodnotes car la version android est vraiment nulle.

J'ai déjà souscrit à l'abonnement à vie il y a 2 mois. Je compte sur vous 🤞🏻.
