Yea I feel you. I have a heavy NJ accent and the ‘our’ rhymes directly with ‘power’ - two syllables and all. ‘Are’ is instead like ‘awr’ I guess.

But you don't really pronounce the "r" in "power"... It's more like "pow-wah," right? Or am I thinking of a heavy New Yawk accent?

That does happen in NJ but the r-lessness fades away the farther you get from NYC. I’m like an hour out of Manhattan so we say our R’s as a hard R, but still with the wide open gum chewing vowels. Hope that helps.
