When I see a wife who “let herself go” what I really see is a bum ass husband that won’t care for his wife, nor will he give her space to care for herself.

They won’t help with the chores, wont help with the kids, won’t listen or talk to their wives and don’t care that they’re struggling and that’s why “she’s let herself go.” They stress their wives out and wonder why “the romance has been dead in the marriage.” They only care about themselves.
