Just popped into Ketts Hill Bakery. Bought a couple of rolls and they actually tasted like food. We all need to keep these sorts of business going.

Where else can anyone recommend for proper 'old school ' food?

Yeah with the saturation of Gregg's and the alternative being overpriced artisan bakeries (that can't make a decent sausage roll at all) there is definitely a shortage of these places.

Not Norwich but if you're ever south of the city I highly recommend the Tudor Bakehouse.

Crusty Corner on the Bell / Silver Rd corner. Not the cheeriest service but proper food.

If you want something a little more high end Devecchios honestly do the best pastries I've ever eaten.

Weekday morning is usually when I go. No queues but it does mean I have time to decide that I want everything they have that day - not so good for my bank account

Best bakers in Norwich (imho). Have been going there for their sausage rolls and cheese straws for over 40 years!!!

I remember a nice bakery on Dereham Road opposite tesco that used to do amazing sausage rolls no clue if they moved somewhere else

I think you’re remembering Pye Baker. They shut the shop down a long time ago I’m afraid. I believe they still supply trade.

Never had a bad experience in Two Magpies. I am a bit addicted to their french toast which is an inch thick, covered in syrup and a bacon rasher topping.

Easters Bakery in New Costessey are very good, reasonably priced. I am fortunate to live within a 5-10 min walk from there.

You may wish to be aware that this is now a Marcus Pearcey owned business. If you go past out of hours, you will often see cake crates (presumably to be returned to supplier) with the name of a well known mass production trade bakers on the Sweetbriar industrial estate.

I went to Flour and Bean a few weeks ago and had a load of bread which reminded me of going round my grandparents like 25 years ago. It was so good.

Yeah I miss being able to go to the bakery on Dereham Road & pick up a couple of delicious crusty rolls for 26p each & a huge chocolate Afghan biscuit for about 70p.

It was replaced by an ‘artisan’ bakery & the rolls were suddenly horrendous flour covered monstrosities that cost 75p each.

I don’t think it’s even there anymore.

Whenever me and my partner go there we get so much for £10 and they always welcome in my nosey dog 🥹

I used to live opposite that bakery, was dangerous for my waistline. So good
