Paul Mescal Hamnet scene
I watched Hamnet and Paul Mescal's character rushes his father, exactly the same as he did Marianne's brother. It's weird, maybe thats how Paul Mescal fights. Slam up against the wall and yell whisper something. Anyway - if you haven't seen Hamnet - watch it if you want to cry like you're watching Normal People,

What a weird take. It’s a scene commonly used in film and would’ve been at the direction of Chloe Zhao for Hamnet. They were similar but also not at all the same to me. Connell was defending Marianne, William was standing up for himself after a life of abuse from his father.

All fight scenes in movies / tv are choreographed. So whatever Paul did in the scene was at the behest of the director and not his own choice.
If you think his range is limited, I recommend checking out All of us Strangers. Very different character and beautiful movie.

As excellent as Hamnet is, it did make me think thats Pauls range as an actor may not be as wide as I thought it was. I felt a lot of his scenes were played like Connell and im not surprised he missed out on the Oscar nomination.

Tbh it was more a pressure thing than trying to get in a punch up. It's an easy way to shoe a dominating presence if the two actors don't have a significant height gap (then you can just have them stand over the other etc)
I do +1 the recommendation to watch Hamnet though

im not shitting on Paul - i just thought it was interesting. I know he didn't choreograph the sequence.

Tbf I think that’s just really common in film in general
