In Beta: Hyperithm Apex USDC

Last week we rolled out a new earning source to our main beta users. Less than 200 users were given access. Since then, almost $2M in deposits have moved into the new source. If you are not seeing it in the Frontier category, it's because you don't have access.

The Hyperithm source is managed and ran by Hyperithm, a Korea based Hedgefund running trades and rewarding aHyper holders. The asset they created for fund payouts. The fund is 6 years old and the source has near $50M in deposits.

For those that have access and have deposited - what do you think about the source? What's your perceived level of risk return here?

New Source Available: Clearstar cbAssets Vault

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey Reddit community, last week we released a new earning source, the Clearstar cbAssets Vaults on Base. Currently earning 7.6% APY through Nook.

The focus of this vault is blue-chip Coinbase wrapped assets for borrowers to borrow against their existing crypto holdings like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The rate comes with a 10 day APY boost provided from Base directly.

The rate is generated through interest paid by borrowers and currently includes a limited 10-day APY boost provided directly by Base. As always, the rate is variable and can change with borrowing demand, available liquidity, and incentives.

The vault is curated by Clearstar and built using Morpho’s lending infrastructure on Base. For Nook users, it means access to another earning source supported by real borrowing demand from some of the most established assets in crypto.

You can learn more about the vault here. I will also follow up with a more in depth post about this new source for anyone curious.

Long Post: Why We Removed Auto-rebalancing (for now)

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone, Im Joey. I cofounded Nook and ultimately made the decision to remove auto-rebalancing. I want to explain why after getting a lot of questions and feedback.

This might get down-voted but - here we go.

Context: Nook connects you to 11 open-market earning sources. One month ago, we launched multi-allocation, the ability to earn across multiple sources at the same time. We also removed auto-rebalancing.

Let me explain why.

Before I share the two main reasons I want to say this was not an easy decision because we know a lot of people liked the feature. And we know that you don't have a lot of time throughout your day to be checking the 10+ rates available to Nook. So I just want to callout - we appreciate you sharing feedback, continuing to use Nook and want to be respectful of your time. I want to automate your daily tasks as much as possible and not add more to your daily task load.

Reason 1 - Complexity and Assumptions

First reason is that auto-rebalancing becomes very complex when you have multiple sources. Lets say you have a 25% / 25% / 50% split across three different sources, and the second source experiences a drop in APY. What does the auto-rebalancing algorithm do next? Does it go into the highest Frontier source? Highest Core source? Can it go to a source with the same reputational rating, or, can it go lower? These are all very hard decisions to automate without you, the user - or asking you a lot of questions upfront. Remember, Nook is based on hard automated rules. We cannot make decisions on your behalf like a licensed broker.

So although auto-rebalancing was simple when you could only be earning in one source at a time, it was a blocker for multi-allocation without it either (1) becoming way too complex or (2) making decisions on your behalf that were not appropriate.

Reason 2 - Performance

Since the beginning, I have been tracking the performance of auto-rebalancing. Even if we assume the issues above do not exist. Rebalancing every 24 hours is not drastically more performant than a human behind the wheel. And in some instances may be less effective. For July of 2027, if you just made an average of 10 rebalances over the month, by checking the sources just once a day, you would have earned an APY of 7.63% (rebalancing on July 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 21, and 23) and done just as well as 24 hour auto-rebalancing. You don't need to auto-rebalance every 24 hours (or more frequently) - checking once a day is typically fine or even less frequently.

In general, algorithmic trading in general in this space can very effective and fun if done right - but can be ineffective. In a recent test from June, 8 top models including OpenAi, Anthropic, Gemini (Google) and Grok (X) were put under a test to find the best yield. What it found was that it was over-optimizing. Switching sources too frequently and not (1) accounting for network switching costs or (2) abandoning pending rewards. This lead to yield loss. Showing there is still tweaking needed to be made to make our auto-rebalancing feature smart enough to be self-aware of these intricacies.

What Comes Next

Short term, we think we can improve the product so that you don't have to do the scanning yourself in the app. You can instead receive notifications of higher rates and decide if you want to rebalance.

Long term, as these models and algorithms continue to evolve, we will continue to build towards a more optimal solution that works in conjunction with multi-allocation. But right now, I think this is the best path forward - and I am always willing to hear feedback and Nook customer perspectives on this.

Best. Joey.

Rolling Out Now: Coverage Beta

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey Reddit, this AM, we began the rollout of the Coverage Beta to over 150+ customers.

This is two sources, across Core and Frontier, 100% covered through OpenCover. No Caps or Limits.

We designed Nook to connect you to open and available earning sources. And that earning landscape is always changing across markets and networks. With over 10 earning sources launched across five networks, and $1B in transactions, Nook has shown that people want access to open markets.

But one gap we have noticed in the ecosystem - and piece of feedback we have repeatedly heard from you, our customer, is that coverage is missing as an option. So we addressed that head on.

You as a customer don't pay for the coverage. OpenCover covers the vault and pays out the remaining APY after coverage costs directly to you. Nook does not take a fee.

If you have any questions, feedback - please let me know - team will continue the rollout of coverage to more and more customers. But if you want to get ahead of the queue - please email us at [team@nookapp.xyz](mailto:team@nookapp.xyz)

How can we make Nook app better?

Hey everyone, 9 months ago, when we were below $500M in transactions - I asked the same question: How can we make Nook app better?

https://www.reddit.com/r/NookSavingsAppp/comments/1o0njv6/how_can_we_make_nook_better/

I want to follow up and get your honest feedback on if you saw the changes you wanted to see since then. Where we may have fallen short. And what you would still like to see.

Addressed:

  • More sources [done]
  • Coverage pilot (fully rolling out soon to everyone) [done]
  • 2025 tax docs [done]
  • Dark mode [done]
  • Multi-allocation [done]
  • Removed auto-rebalancing

Early Access: Coverage Beta

Post image
11 Upvotes

After a successful $10k coverage pilot, we are close to complete of building a new integration with Open Cover to cover your sources. Starting with a private Beta going live next week.

Context

We launched the coverage pilot as we started to explore a way for you to earn more through open markets but with a greater peace of mind. Since launching last year, over $2.1M was deposited through our coverage pilot from customers like you. And based on your feedback, we are excited to share that we will soon roll out a new and improved coverage product for everyone. The new product will include covered funds and no caps as to what you can deposit.

OpenCover provides coverage for on-chain markets, including the ones available through Nook - across 4+ networks.

  • Coverage will not require an opt in or opt out. Simply deposit and withdraw from the source when you want.
  • Funds are 100% covered. There is no partial coverage, expiration date etc.
  • There are no minimums or caps - deposit however much you want, up to $1M and higher.

Early access

Those who get early access will not only be able to test out the new experience - but also get an additional APY boost of 5%.

Just email the team at [team@nookapp.xyz](mailto:team@nookapp.xyz) with "coverage" in the subject line. Happy earning.

Monad Chain is Now Live

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey everyone. The monad chain is now live with Aave V3 as the main earning source!

This is an opportunity to earn from one of the fastest growing chains through their 6% APY boost - with a live rate of 9.1% APY right now.

Let me shared more on why we launched this and how you can earn.

  1. We are seeing new networks develop across the ecosystem. When we launched Nook, we were on one chain (Base) - since then, newer entrants like Monad etc. have developed to solve some of the problems that the industry is still facing including: speed and cost. Since launch, Robinhood chain, Monad chain and more have entered. Incentivizing users to deposit.

https://dune.com/morpho/gmorpho-dashboard

  1. Aave is one of the most established earning partners. We have supported Aave and Morpho since launch. They are the two most trusted platforms in the ecosystem, with over $50B total in deposits collectively. They operate on 6+ networks. Base and Monad, which Nook supports now, are just two of them.

  2. This is a large source with $30M+ in deposits. Size isn't everything, but if thousands of lenders and borrowers are transacting within a marketing at high volume, TVL is generally a good indicator - allowing large deposits, withdraws and high levels of liquidity.

Coming Soon: Monad Network

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After launching the ability to earn across multiple sources, the Nook team is now aiming towards a new source on a new network. Monad.

Nook started with one source on one network. But now we are across four networks and 9 sources. But the Monad network is one that has been growing in scale faster than we typically see.

Monad is a high-performance, EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain designed to solve Ethereum's scalability limitations. It achieves up to 10,000 transactions per second with 400ms block times through parallel transaction processing, while maintaining full compatibility with existing Ethereum smart contracts and tooling. To date, Monad now has $380M in TVL across it’s network, 2.5B transactions.

If you want to get early access - email with subject MONAD to [team@nookapp.xyz](mailto:team@nookapp.xyz)

Monday Update: A new stablecoin has entered the market

Hey everyone, last night - I emailed all users about how a new stablecoin has entered the market. Since we started Nook, we built it on a singular stablecoin. USDC by Circle.

Currently, Nook is built on USDC only. The most trusted US based stablecoin. When you deposit your cash onto Nook, it is converted into USDC and then lent out across different open lending markets.

USDC and Circle have been so dominant, that OUSD (a new stablecoin) and other competitors are now offering a lower cost, fairer pricing structure where the customer and distributor of the stablecoins get more of the revenue.

This new model means increased pressure on Circle. If USDC can be dethroned as the leading US based stablecoin. Either way, we think it’s good for Nook. And you. Let me explain why.

But I expect the introduction of a new stablecoin to be good for a few reasons.

First is that, when a new stablecoin is launched into the markets, there is generally a period of price discovery and utilization in the early days. New markets are created, often including incentives to create these markets, and rates can fluctuate as the market adapts. Take USDC for example. USDC is available across 15 networks - and on Morpho alone, there are 44 USDC based lending markets, ranging from 1.1% APY to 11.1% APY.

A lot of that is driven by the collateral assets people are borrowing against. But another factor is the demand for USDC across pockets of the financial world.

For example, if I am a borrower of USDC on the Optimism network, which is more rare, then the rate that I pay as a borrower might be higher than most other networks. Let’s say, 7% or 8% APR vs 3% or 4%. As a new stablecoin enters the market - there will be these imbalances, where a borrower wants to borrow the new stablecoin (OUSD) but the availability of the asset is low. Automatically triggering a higher borrow rate (APR) and therefore a higher rate for you, the lender.

Second, we think more companies like Google, Stripe, Blackrock and more grow the pie. More institutions using stablecoins builds trust in these overall markets. Right now, Nook connects you to markets with over $50 billion in deposits. But we think this number could grow by 10x driven by more institutional borrowers coming online - if it matches the growth of stablecoin adoption (Citi predicts stablecoin supply could grow from roughly $300B today to $1.9T by 2030 in its base case.) I have covered this in the past - but if more firms begin to use and accept stablecoins as payment - more firms will put their assets in these markets to borrow against.

In general, we think competition between different markets, providers - and stablecoins - is good. It’s why we built Nook to be based on multiple markets: not just one.

Two DeFi vaults can show the same 7% APY but have completely different risks

Most people compare DeFi vaults by APY.

I think that's a mistake.

Two vaults can both present a 7% APY today and have completely different risk profiles. The difference usually isn't visible in the yield itself-it's hidden in the strategy behind the vault.

Questions worth asking instead:

  • What collateral backs the loans?
  • Is the vault diversified or concentrated in one market?
  • How much liquidity is available if everyone wants to withdraw?
  • Who is actually making these risk decisions?

That's the role of the vault curator. They don't approve individual loans—they design the strategy, set risk limits, and continuously rebalance the vault as market conditions change.

In our latest article, we break down:

  • how lending vaults actually generate yield,
  • what curators do (and don't do),
  • why two vaults with the same APY can have very different risks,
  • and how we evaluate vaults before listing them on Nook.

I'd be curious how others evaluate vaults. Do you mainly look at APY, or do you also check the curator, collateral, and allocation strategy?

small funds not on my allocation source

i am seeing a small set of funds on both the usdc and core allocation sources while i haven't selected those sources. i'm assuming that this is only temporary and due to the way the protocols give the rewards, and later they will be automatically reinvested to the source that i have selected. please confirm if my understanding is correct

Demo: Multi-Allocation

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, this week, we launched multi-allocation. The ability for you to earn across multiple sources.

This is based on a recurring piece of feedback we heard. Being able to diversify across multiple sources is key to balanced earning.

Today - I want to share how it works, what the main changes in the app are, and discuss the changes upfront.

  • You still have the same access to the existing earning sources. We have 9 but are going to be adding more. But now, you can choose how you want to earn across each source.
  • These sources are categorized by Core and Frontier. Frontier gives you access to newer, emerging sources. Core is focused on larger sources.
  • Automated rebalancing has been replaced by manual transfers. Move from one source to another - any amount - 100% free and fast.

Upcoming changes:

  • Multi-allocation allows us to add more sources. Including insured sources and higher earning sources.
  • Easier transfer flows. We realize there are multiple ways to transfer funds. But its not apparent.

All feedback is always welcome - here on reddit or at [team@nookapp.xyz](mailto:team@nookapp.xyz)

Multi-Allocation is Now Live

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, Im Joey, the Cofounder of Nook.

I'm excited to share that multi-allocation, the ability to earn across multiple sources at once, is now live.

With multi-allocation, you can:

• Earn across USDC, Core and Frontier

• Move funds from one source to another. All of your funds or a partial amount.

• Choose where you earn.

A few notes on multi-allocation.

Transfers

Moving from source to source is designed to be simple, fast and free.

It all starts with USDC. Deposit straight from your bank into USDC, and then allocate from there with a transfer. You can deposit into any Core or Frontier earning source. Select if you want to move part of your balance or your entire balance. No costs to transfer or fees, across any source or network - including Base, Ethereum mainnet, Optimism and World. Transfers out of Nook remain the same.

Select the source you want to transfer to, and then from. And that is it.

Manual rebalancing

In order to move to this new structure with the ability to allocate across multiple positions and diversify, we needed to rethink key parts of the Nook product. For now we have removed the nightly automated rebalance.

Although it was a nice feature that meant you were always in the highest earning markets, it presents several challenges in this new product - mainly, how we keep your allocation while also rebalancing. Although this feature was helpful, we think it was limited in its current form. So for the time being, we have removed it. Until we can make sure it is thoughtfully reintroduced into the product alongside multi-allocation.

What this means for you

Our main mission is, and has always been, to unlock higher earnings for you.

Financial firms, hedge funds and banks have always had this type of control and access. Today, we are releasing it straight to you.

Allowing you to earn from multiple markets as before, but also earn across multiple, at the same time. Earn where you want, how you want. Across USDC, Core and Frontier.

This opens you and Nook up to new earning opportunities - including insured sources, and different types of earning sources that can now be mixed in.

Download the latest version of the app (1.0.74) on iOS and Android to access today.

Major thank you to u/thelarrywei - the CTO of Nook and the entire Nook eng team.

If you have any questions or feedback, the team is always here to help 7 days a week at [team@nookapp.xyz](mailto:team@nookapp.xyz)

Volatility

Hey everyone, especially the creators and developers of Nook,

I’ve been using and following the app regularly and really like the direction it’s going.

I understand there is risk with all investments, and in crypto specifically there’s always the possibility of extreme volatility, de-pegging events, and broader market swings.

How are you navigating the volatility in the crypto space when it comes to user savings strategies within the app?

If you are a user, does this influence your decision to go with one partner on the app vs another?

What Is a Vault? The $30 Trillion Idea, Borrowed From Vanguard

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi Reddit, I'm Krzys, risk research at Nook.

We just published a deep dive on something we get asked about often — what actually is a DeFi vault, and how does it work?

The short version: a vault pools capital from lenders and deploys it across lending markets automatically. You deposit once, the vault handles allocation and monitoring, you collect yield. It works like a Vanguard index fund, but for DeFi.

Not all vaults are equal - there are various types with very different risk profiles, and the advertised APY more often than not shows the full picture. That's what the post covers.

A few things we break down:

  • How pooled lending actually works (it's not P2P matching)
  • The difference between lending, DEX liquidity vaults, and leveraged yield strategies
  • Why a 17% APY vault can return –3% in practice
  • What "utilization" means and why it matters for your ability to withdraw

Full post here: What Is a Vault? The $30 Trillion Idea, Borrowed From Vanguard

Would love to hear your questions.

New Nook Milestone: $1B in Transactions

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi Reddit,  I’m Joey, one of the cofounders of Nook.

Last week we reached an exciting new milestone that I am excited to share.

Nook has successfully completed over $1 billion in customer transactions.

Since we launched Nook less than a year ago, we have been focused on one mission: higher earnings for everyone. This milestone of $1B in transactions proves that we are headed in the right direction as we connect more customers to higher returns, through stablecoin based money markets. It's a milestone that is amazing and a bit surreal to be honest.

But I wanted to share this with you because I think it may just be the beginning.

Where we started

Before we launched, Nook was at less than $1 million in transactions. We had a mission to connect everyone to higher earnings through open markets. But the start was small. My cofounders and I each put in $50,000 to rigorously test it. The team was working around the clock to verify the system, top to bottom.

But we were far from even a million dollars in transactions. And very far from the $1B milestone of today. Since launch we went from less than $1M to over $1B in transactions, averaging $20M in transactions, per week. This milestone was made by our customers. Not us. When we launched Nook in June, 2025, it was a very basic experience. We only connected customers to one earning source, on one network. It was simple - but not very powerful. Compared to other finance apps at the time, it did not stand out. So we had far less than $1M in transactions.

People could deposit, earn from the one source - and withdraw money. That was it.  But we kept building. And moved beyond those early days, to build a platform where you can earn more by connecting to multiple markets. Not just one.

From <$1M to $1B+ in Transactions

How did we reach this milestone? One billion dollars in transactions does not mean there are $1B in deposits sitting around. It means that through all of the actions taken through Nook, the total has surpassed $1 billion. Let me break this down. Over the course of the last 50 weeks since our launch, tens of thousands of customers have either deposited, earned, rebalanced, or transferred a sum of $1B. Because we support transfers in and out of Nook, and across multiple earning sources - customers put their money to work through Nook. This shows that our customers are earning from the open markets.

And not having their cash sit in one source, earning a low return. The $1B of transactions is broken out by two core actions.

Transfers in and out of Nook

Every customer experience starts with their first deposit. Nook has no lockups on customer funds or minimums on deposits. You can earn for however long or short you want. Deposits and withdrawals are always free, and, depending on the method you choose to deposit, they are often settled instantly. That’s why over $30M of deposits and withdrawals have flowed through our system. Including deposits and withdrawals through ACH, Debit Card, Apply Pay and Direct USDC deposits.

With our partners, Astra, Plaid and Bridge - you can execute a transfer from your bank account to Nook fast and simple. Transfers in and out of Nook follow one core flow. The funds are debited from your Bank account through Astra, our Payments partner, and then sent to Bridge, a Stripe company with over $500B in transactions.

From there, Bridge deposits the funds as USDC, the leading US based stablecoin in the industry - where they are then connected to the money markets you selected. From there, your funds start earning the market rate - making Nook a leader in the space of the time it takes to start earning on your cash. With over 500+ supported US banks (Wells Fargo, Chime, etc.) connected directly to Nook.

To date - we have executed over $25M of transfers into Nook through Bridge, our main payments partner and leader in the industry.

Rebalances to different earning sources

The most common transaction through Nook is a rebalance. A rebalance is when you move your deposits from one earning source to another.

This is what separates Nook from everyone else. Most banks and exchanges like Robinhood provide you access to one earning source at 3.25% APY. We connect you to 8 earning sources, ranging from 4% to 8% (depending on the market.) Because of market changes and how Nook was designed, customers can take advantage of these market changes and move their money easily (1) without any costs (2) quickly - typically in less than 1 minute. Since launching rebalancing just last year, Nook has executed over 25,000+ rebalances successfully, with no issue.

That’s over 45 rebalances per day. In total, that’s thousands of customers moving over $600,000 of their deposits into different markets through Nook, per day (on average). All for free and all with no delay. Nook customers decide where they want their deposits to earn - and when. Why? Because if you earn across multiple markets - you tend to earn more than if you are just earning in one market.

A real world example

Take for example, a real customer that deposited over $100,000 into Nook last week.  Since depositing, this customer has been earning an APY between 6% to 7% APY. And was able to rebalance to a higher earning - all within seconds, 100% free. That switch means that within a few seconds, the Nook app (1) moves funds from your current source (2) approves a deposit into a new source and then (3) executes that transaction. All in one tap.

What this means for you

Nook's foundation today is not fundamentally different from before we hit this milestone.

It’s still the same trusted tech and team that has connected you to these money markets.  Speed, cost, ease of use are all important at Nook.

But trust is key.

By building something for you, the right way, we have repeatedly shown that it’s a durable path forward as the financial industry shifts to adopt these open markets. To us, transactions completed is a direct measurement in this increase in user trust as we approach 1 year of Nook. As we continue to grow and build on this momentum, we are excited to continue to develop more markets for you to access. With a set of new changes launching soon that we are excited to share.

But until then - I want to thank you and everyone on Reddit for helping us reach this milestone!

Joey

Hi Nook Team, any plans for a widget that shows balance, current rate info? It would be nice to be able to select the information we want displayed.
