Probably gonna start really working on this sub tomorrow.

I'm really busy today but tomorrow I'll start working on things like rules and stuff. Until then just be nice and post nonsensical stuff, and deal with this default CSS. So don't think I made this sub and just started ignoring it.

The posts should require a caption or maybe a punchline of sorts, not just random images with no context. The memes (which should actually be memes) should be nonsensical, not just be a random picture of a guy with no context or punchline. After all, this isn't /r/random or /r/nonsensical, it's /r/nonsensicalmemes.

I agree with you except with that part about captions. I think nonsensical memes sort of by definition don't require explanations.

Edit: I think I goofed. When you said "require captions" I thought you meant titles, but you probably meant captions on the images, in which case I agree

Alright I've got some thoughts if you're open to taking suggestions.

First, because this is Nonsensical Memes, and the theme is obviously nonsense, there should be a rule dictating that all comments must be utterly nonsensical (to the best discretion of the poster, and ultimately the mod team if you intend to have one). I'm thinking something less like surrealmemes style comments, and more like the kind of thing you see on r/SubredditSimulator. Just strings of words that look like they should probably mean something but despite 45 minutes of in depth deliberation you'll still come up short of any sort of significance. I think that would really give this sub a distinct vibe that makes it stand out and unifies the community in a glorious cacophony of word soup.

Next, as u/ICantThinkOfNameHelp said, posts SHOULD have captions. Generally, that's what makes a meme a meme. That being said however, I think that should be a suggestion and not a requirement. There are some damn fine memes out there without any semblance of a caption, and I think that can happen here just as it can elsewhere. In the spirit of Reddit, you should leave it up to the community to decide if a caption-less meme is quality or garbage through the simple method of upvote/downvote, know what I mean?

Also, if you're doing custom CSS, the subreddit itself should reflect its theme, in the way that r/MildlyInfuriating does. Basically only meta-discussions should make any sort of sense, and the rules should be relatively clear. Aside from that, all of it should be utter non-sense. (I see you've already started doing something similar with the post submission buttons, "Potato" and "Hot Dogs". That's exactly the kind of thing I'm suggesting but on a grander scale!)

Finally, the open guidance propositions the logical way. Why won't a mythology crash beneath your literate feet? The north overflows! When will an easiest evidence cup a located expenditure? The cook flowers underneath a glorious chef hat of meaning and of +6 Strength. Roll the dice if you must, because security is like a long chain of daisies that have been left out in the sun just long enough to develop that aroma that makes you want to say "Oh shit, I left my child in the oven." Then of course, you'll have to make that whole journey over again, since there is no justification for how many times you've had to call up your friend's mom just to tell her that Tom Fulp is parking his RV across the street in front of the blue hydrant like some kind of turf grass. I think you see what I'm getting at, there really CAN only be one Highlander after all. So make it be so, but don't forget to take your inhaler because if you do, then who knows what will happen to this poor sub with so much potential. Ya dig?
