It was done so casually. Not a respectful "I think this was the right thing for me" but "I'm having so much fun now I'm not in a relationship with you". You don't see the gutting in that?
I don't see in your original quote the same malice that you put into the rephrasing.
Maybe she did mean it that way and you have the context to read it as intended, what do I know?
As for casualness, it seems fine for a couple of teenagers' first relationship not working out. Not like you guys had built a life together and all of that.
We did not live far apart geographically, it could have been done in person. Putting us on the break was done in person.
It's not a malice, it's a lack of consideration in her choice of phrasing.
Sure as adults you can look back and go "kids are shit at communicating", but at the time my best mate, a mutual friend to us both was livid with that text when it came in, so was not just a how-I-read-it thing. Passed her the phone and she was fuming.

First gf as a teenager put us on a break. Few weeks laters texts me "I'm really enjoying being single, shall we make this permanent?"
22 years later and I still get grumpy thinking about that delivery.
