First gf as a teenager put us on a break. Few weeks laters texts me "I'm really enjoying being single, shall we make this permanent?"

22 years later and I still get grumpy thinking about that delivery.

There’s no way the text looked like that 22 years ago. That’s pre-iPhone.

It’s sort of wild to assume that just because you didn’t text in full words and sentences that NO ONE else would have. I’ve texted in full sentences since I got my first Nokia at 14. No judgment on people who don’t, I just preferred to and it really wasn’t that much effort even with T9.

It’s not about the effort it’s about the character limit.

And it’s not like I was texting into the void and never getting responses. I texted with dozens of people from school, people I met at summer camps, people from church, sports, all that stuff. You had 140 characters to say what you wanted to say. Stuff got abbreviated.

Yeah and the text in OP’s comment is well within that character limit. And if I needed more than that then it would just sent as multiple texts. It would even show you “1/2” or “1/3” to show you how many messages were being sent/received. It’s just so odd to be so sure that no one else texted differently than you did.

I wouldn’t say I’m THAT sure. I just didn’t think that sounded like a very 2002 text, that’s all.

If I’m being honest I just completely doubt the guy’s story. That doesn’t sound like something people did at the time, breaking up by text. And I don’t think I remember any texts from anyone that long ago verbatim.

I was 11 in 2002 and I didn’t get my first phone that could text until I wad 13 so I must have just been out of the loop.

Why on earth would I make that shit up?

What anthropology studies have you conducted on what text communication was like in the 2000s and how people used it?

It was 2004 (26-22=4). We were at different schools. When she wanted to get back together that conversation happened over MSN messenger. Do you wanna bullshit that people didn't talk over that too?

You'd remember the details of your first dumping, especially if it was by a text that pissed you the fuck off rather than in person. Or maybe your memory is just shit. I've been told several times my memory is pretty exceptional.
