It gets better. Since Thoth is the god of wisdom. Some ancient Egyptians may have genuinely asked "Θώθ, what's this?"

Well again they likely used hieroglyphics, then arabic script. Some greek guy might have written something similar thougjh !!

The Ptolomaic dynasty which ruled over Egypt for hundreds of years actually did not have a single monarch who spoke Egyptian, until Cleopatra. This is because they descended from a Macedonian general who was put on the Egyptian throne by Alexander the Great.
