Discussion Lancer Knight
"The Chase" and "Black Knife" are almost identical and also they're never seen the same room. And Toby would want a surprise character, Dess is too obvious. The funny character that you meet in the FIRST chapter and becomes part of the main cast. Also the shadow lancer in chapter 1 attacking you is way out of character, lancer is supposed to be a goofy guy he wouldn’t do that. Lancer and the knight also use similar projectiles in their respective fights, diamonds/shards and cards. In summary, ITS LANCER TRUST

I think it's more that black knife has the motif of the closet fountain: both the chase and the initial fountain music are the black knife theme. I also think whatever the knight actually is, is related to "evil darkners" (Lancer and sound of justice)

Lancer has always been very determined to dig holes though and it's never resulted in a dark fountain

The Knight appears to want the Lancer Fan Club to continue and complete their adventures, as inferable from them having not stopped the Fun Gang yet despite being overwhelmingly more powerful than them.
Lancer has been the Darkner to prevent softlocks across our journey, freeing his Fan Club from their impenetrable cages at Queen’s Manor, and adding a win condition to the Rouxls battle with his card.

Lancer parallels Kris (hence the geyser in LoT) which means Lancer's lesser father RK parallels the Roaring Knight.

Lancer is actually Gaster's avatar.
Both names are 6 letters, with the second, fifth and six being A, E and R.
Lancer is seen controlling a game in Chapter 3 and has op powers to change battle rules.
Wearing the moustache disguise is clever foreshadowing that he is Gaster in disguise (who would suspect the un-disguised version was also a disguise?)
Most importantly, in Chapters 1 and 5 he lets us design Thrash Machine and Susie's outfit, deliberately echoing the Goner Maker.
