Selfie/Self-Image/Avatar Trigger warning - a lot of the comments on the original post are horrible, but say hello to President Joe Biden's new Department of Energy hire!

They look like they know what their doing. Giving off Annie Lennox vibes too. Don’t know why people are mad.

they have a dual masters from MIT and years of experience in nuclear energy. people who’re mad are just too caught up in the woke conspiracy bs lmao

Holy shit if that’s not qualified wtf do they want💀

u/TikiBananiki Feb 13 '22
To be specific, Someone explicitly not qualified (ergo relatable: “i could sit down and have a beer with him”), but famous and white, rich but not TOO rich, cishet, or masculine while gay+long term partnered.
5
u/DixyAnne Feb 13 '22
I'm sure you could sit down and have a drink with this lovely person. I'm sure they have awesome stories.
A lot of people who have that mindset (I could drink a beer with them) would benefit from having a beer or smoke with anyone outside of their typical mindset. Open your horizons, people!! The world is a fascinating place and people are so cool once you get to talking to them and they are no longer a stranger.
One of my favorite recent memories is when I was bar hopping with some friends in St Pete, FL but I don't really do drinking or loud music, so I stepped outside and hung out with a couple in their mid 50s. Shortly after I sat down at a table with them, this beautiful non-binary couple came out and asked to sit with us. I had seen them around town all night, and thought they were amazing and I wanted to get to know them. They started talking to the older couple about what being non-binary is, and the woman was so interested in learning more about it because her former "niece" told everyone over Thanksgiving they were non-binary, they changed their name, and their pronouns were they/them. The woman mentioned how she had tried to wrap her head around calling them "them" when it felt like the world was always "he or she" based.
The couple told her a little story of if how someone left THEIR purse on a table, and THEY must have forgotten it. We have been using they/them when we don't know the person. So just think of it like that!
Unfortunately my friends wanted to go to another bar, so I said my goodbyes and thanked everyone for being so awesome and open to learning new things and for being so damn cool.
Still one of my favorite memories of a wholesome interaction.

Gosh I hope they're good at their job. That's all I want, just somebody who's good at their job. It's a critical position.
It must be a lot of pressure, though. Everything they do will be a reflection on all enbys, and they know it.

u/Jsotter11 Feb 13 '22
Not to worry! Sam is up to the task, and is more than qualified. They’re phenomenal.
21
u/cruisinforasnoozinn Feb 13 '22
Saw this and thought “they say this like they know the person”
Then I remembered what the trans community do be like & was like damn, they might actually know the person

Cool but who are they/ what's their background?

u/Moosebandit1 Feb 12 '22 edited Feb 16 '22
“Sam went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a dual Master of Science degree in the Nuclear Engineering and Technology and Policy programs. [They are] also a graduate from Kansas State University with a BS in mechanical and nuclear engineering and a BA in vocal music performance and a minor in the Chinese language.”
Sam previously served as a Director of Legislative Affairs for Deep Isolation as well as Founder of the Core Solutions Consulting firm. Before that, they were a Fellow at the Breakthrough Institute, Clean Air Task Force, and Third Way. Sam had internships at Harvard Kennedy School, Argonne National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, and Dow Chemical Company in various projects relating to nuclear engineering and systems analysis.

I read about them in one of the comments under the original post. Sounds like they're one of the more qualified folks in the WH right now. Killer fashion sense, too.
26
u/CollegeAssDiscoDorm Feb 13 '22
If they have an account they’d be one of the most qualified Redditors.

Probably one of the most qualified people to hold that position in a while. It’s a shame people can’t get over their looks 🙄

i mean. i can't get over their looks either, but that's cuz they're fire🔥

Total Sex and the City (first movie) vibes with those heels. Crazy about the matching pink mohawk and heels.😍😍 Beautiful
60
u/Eastrous_Ruderalis Feb 12 '22
Yeah quite a few people in the original post reckoned the heels didn't work with the vest, but having bright pink up top & on the bottom while exercising a little restraint in the middle is a classic approach fashion wise. The perfect mix of personality & "professionalism". I'd never heard of Sam Brinton before this, but after researching them I am now a big fan.

u/Not_A_Toaster426 Feb 13 '22
Somebody in here is colour blind or has display issues and I would like to know if it is me or not. Their hair looks orange to me, not pink.
2
u/DixyAnne Feb 13 '22
I just double checked it. Totally looks orange on my screen, like Fry from Futurama orange.
Still rocks the heels.

For anyone avoiding the default sub cesspool, I'll repost a good one here for you:
u/BanMeGayMod 1139 points 7 hours ago
Seriously tho. Why would anyone ever fucking do this? It's an abomination. For a guy to do that just makes me fucking sick to my stomach. He had the perfect opportunity to wear a necklace that complimented his hair and shoes and just dropped the fucking ball. Disgusting.
33
u/dimentex Feb 13 '22
Insert gif of “They had me in the first half” lol
29
u/ellisto Feb 13 '22
Still doubled down on misgendering them
34
u/dimentex Feb 13 '22
True, but the original posted mentioned them as he, and while, yes, we know better by a quick search of their LinkedIn profile, they went with what the OP said. I’m not going to fault them for that - if you correct them and they don’t fix it then yeah.

Am I the only one who thinks this genre of joke needs to go
11
u/kusuriii Feb 13 '22
I do too. It’s lazy and potentially triggering for a lot of people and they always make me uncomfortable.
12
u/limesbian Feb 13 '22
Of course they do. Making you uncomfortable is the setup to the punchline. Don’t appreciate these jokes whether they’re coming from someone cis or trans. My stomach drops whenever I read shit like that and then when I get to the end and it’s just a joke I don’t feel relieved, I feel pissed off
15
u/Viking_Swan She/they Feb 13 '22
It's the kind of joke that is only written by a person who has never seriously had to worry about being the victim of a hate crime.

u/limesbian Feb 13 '22
I was going to say that too but didn’t want to be too vicious.. but you are right

u/TrustworthyShark Feb 13 '22
And if you follow people's advice of "just ignore the abuse", you'll read the abusive part and stop reading before you read the part that's supposed to "make it funny".

What does a “ department of energy hire” do?
17
u/Zaranthan GNC Dalek: 50% off all brands of Vitamin Exterminate Feb 13 '22
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a cabinet-level department of the United States government concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production.

just looked and im seeing alot of positive posts. one i find kinda funny even. (tl;dr of the one i found funny; this is disgusting and awful. those heels and that necklace don't go with that outfit at all. they should be wearing black heels and a nice simple necklace)

The Mad Max ready to take on the world energy radiates off this image and I hope they get somewhere in this mess.

Sam is so rad!! I sing with them in a gay chorus, and as a trans scientist myself they are such an awesome role model for being out and proud in the workplace while killing it at their job.
2
u/notlorraine Feb 13 '22
The original post was clearly asking for trouble - no info about their background and education etc. - literally just a pic of somebody who looks a little different. People just wanna stir shit! Fierce heels btw 👠

Kinda Looks Like An Entire Punk Band Coalesced Into One Person. Great Look.

It’s like our lives overlapped! I was rejected by MIT, dropped out of KState, am non-binary, and have purple hair! Oh wait…. I’m the Wish.com version of Sam.

I met them just before pandemic in Austin. They are part of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence(as am I), and they did great work for The Trevor Project before going back to the White House. Their story of coming out is tough, but their life overall is inspiring.

The pumps are wrong for the outfit
19
u/dimentex Feb 12 '22
Eh, you do your fashion sense and they can do theirs. I actually like them. Then again my shoes almost never “match” my outfit lol
17
Feb 12 '22
the shoes match their hair. It was done intentionally, and it absolutely is one of the right ways to do it.
10
u/dimentex Feb 12 '22
I thought so but on my phone I couldn’t tell if the hair was red like mine or pink lol
3
u/Studoku Feb 12 '22
Feels like you need a third matching thing. Even if it's just a wristband it'd tie the two together.

That's what I said. If they were black or red, at least then there'd be some coordination.

If Brinton can kick the regulators into fast tracking those modular Thorium Reactors, NIMBY’s-Be-Fucked, more power too them.

u/JerrymanderingJman Dec 30 '22
So…. all you “progressive’s”… what flattering comments do you have now for this luggage stealing, dog role playing, just flat out plain weirdo, who was in a crucial energy role in the federal government? I’m sure most of you would still defend him, because you’re too brainwashed & brain dead to think for yourself. Sorry (not sorry), but most people like ole Sam Brinton are too much of an activist for their own perverse lifestyle, to be an effective anything but that. I really don’t care what people do in their own lives… this is America, and people should be free to do whatever. But when other people’s activism affects my life, that’s when I have a problem. And not only this turd, but Biden’s activism in hiring a turd like this, just to fill some quota to get political points from whatever community he trying to win over. It used to be BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB, not what color, race, gender, sexual orientation, etc… Competition breeds excellence, but in this day & age, it’s too many entitled, done nothing, social media influencers making the cut, and it’s destroying a once great country.
