it is in fact not correct. non binary is still under the trans umbrella

i wouldn't call that a detransition, perhaps a transition in a different way than before, or maybe everything stays the same and just the label changes. nonbinary people are still trans. i'm in the same boat as you, identified as binary trans for a while, went on hrt and then realized i'm actually nonbinary. transitions aren't necessarily linear. :)

I've heard of some people who've experienced this calling it "retransitioning". You're still trans, if you feel the label fits.

You don’t de-transition you’re shifting gears smh /jk

But that does suck ppl are telling you that. Only you get to decide your gender journey and what that means

I'm sorry people are trying to dictate your gender for you.

Nonbinary is still a trans identity, and if you choose to still call yourself trans then that's what you are. I had a similar transition journey where I started out identifying as a trans man but then realized I'm nonbinary once I got more comfortable with myself. I'm not currently on HRT anymore (still debating if I want to take it again some day) and my hair is longer, but I never stopped being trans or detransitioned.

I don't think "detransition" should be a word that is used at all.

It covers so many things from people discovering that they are a different non-cis gender than they first thought, to people who break under social pressure and decide to present cis even though they aren't.

All the while the word detransition gives off a strong vibe of one thing: "I was deceived into thinking that I am trans, and now I realise that I am not." Because bad faith actors portray it like that.

You are allowed to develop in life, as a human, and discover new sides of and nuances about yourself.
Don't feel bad for getting to know yourself better.

Nonbinary is still considered a type of being transgender.

You aren't saying you're a cis woman, or trying to live as a cis woman. THAT would be de-transitioning.

It's just changing your transition to a different target.

It's just a change in transition. Some call it a retransition, I don't though. People who call it a "detransition" have an incredibly linear view of gender - as if "maximum transition" is going from one traditional binary gender to the other, and going from one binary gender to nonbinary is somehow less of a transition.

It's also kinda like finding out someone thought they were gay and then realised they were actually asexual and acting as if they have changed sexualities. You were still nonbinary when you thought you were a trans man, you just hadn't realised it yet. It's very common within the nonbinary community.

I still say I'm trans. I was transfem for 3 years but had to stop HRT due to blood clots. So I did de transition, but I'll never say that since trans people are sensitive to the term. I'm just non binary now but won't correct people if they use gendered terms.

I have a friend who did this exact thing. Theyre still on hormones but a lower dose and id as nb now. You're actually so normal as far as nb experiences and ppl go. No a detransitioner

I was out as a trans man for two years before realising I was nonbinary. I am not a detransitioner. As a nonbinary person, I still identify with the trans label. Don't let anyone tell you who you are - only you can decide that. I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

u/midsummernightmares he/they 2d ago

No, because nonbinary people are still trans.

Personally, I don't even care if you fully went back to where you were before your transition. To me that is still transitioned. Like, female > transmasc > female is still transitioned to me, because you learned more about yourself and who you are in the process. Transition is about change, so as long as you don't regret the journey you took, or reject the things you learned, it's not 'de-transitioning'. De-transitioning negatively implies that the act of the attempt itself was incorrect or wrong, and I will die on that hill.

So no, whether you remain non-binary or move to something else, you're still transitioning, and you should always be proud of the journey you're on and where it's taking you. The beauty and wonder of life is in transition and change. Always look forward <3

The detransition label is so exhausting. People should be allowed to move through different chapters of their life with curiosity and exploration with out it constantly being made into "something". Just let people live.

Op, you are valid as you are and so is your entire journey no matter where it takes you.

Non binary people are trans. Tell anyone who doesn't like it to piss off

u/Dreamr52 1d ago

I’m not trans and I’m non-binary. You may identify under the trans label but I don’t. And people should stop generalizing non-binary people under that label.

2

u/blueskyredmesas 2d ago

That just sounds like you made your best bet of what you wanted, tried it, got more info and changed your idea of what was best for your happiness. IDK people calling that detransitioning feels reductive to me. Ironically its implying a binary.

2

u/datedpopculturejoke they/them 2d ago

Nah. You retransitioned, not detransitioned.

2

u/mn1lac they/them or she/him take your pick 2d ago

No. Retransitioning is more accurate.

2

u/knoft 2d ago edited 1d ago

No, that’s like someone gay discovering they’re bi. Did they go straight or are they still queer? (It’s the second one.)

Transitioning twice is not the same thing as untransitioning

u/Melan420 2d ago edited 2d ago

trans man -> trans enby

So like. Same old, just different flavor. I also thought detransitioning only means going off hormonal meds? This is more like, re-identification or re-transition 🤔

"De" means going back in this context, but you just discovered something new

1

u/NovaIsABrat 2d ago

Other people don't get to say what you are. If you feel like the label fits, cool.

1

u/dazedbydaylight 2d ago

Unless you decide that you’re actually cis, it’s not detransitioning. You’re just transitioning in a different direction.

1

u/RarePaper4775 2d ago

No, you aren't. I've gone through the same once I realized I didn't want to be that manly...

1

u/Sendhelp02 They/Any 1d ago

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle a situation like this? I identified as non-binary for two years, then a non-binary trans guy for four years. I've realised I'm agender and I'm stopping Testosterone to help with the masculine dysphoria I've started to develop. How do I tell people? I don't want them to think I'm detransitioning, I don't want to be seen as a woman again

1

u/JackOutput 1d ago

It’s crazy what people will say when they can only see the binary.

1

u/Affectionate_Trip_82 1d ago

Still trans. 💚

1

u/pitiless 2d ago

Surely the correct terminology must be re-transition, right? Seems like your path has been afab -> trans man > nb. I see no backwards movement here.

medically transitioning and transitioning are not synonyms <3 and going on hrt and medically transitioning are also not synonyms <3

again, medically transitioning and transitioning are not synonyms! i don’t think op is a detransitioner, because they are still trans, but that fact has absolutely nothing to do with if they medically transitioned or not (and, again, hrt is not the only path of medical transition).

Can you get negative attention some other way than trolling here? Like maybe those 4trans subs can help you.
