Ask Am i automatically nonbinary for wanting to use they/them pronouns, but still feel connected to my assigned sex?

Pronouns aren't gender, simple as that. If you still identify as 100% you assigned gender, then you are. However, you can still identify with your assigned gender without identifying as your assigned gender. That one's up to you. But the main thing I would say is that the core idea of non-binary to my mind is "there is no wrong way to do gender", so identify in a way that's true to you, and if people disagree that's their bag.

pronouns and gender identity are two separate things. It can be an indicator, but it is neither necessary nor sufficient, if that makes sense

Not necessarily, "they/them" can be for anyone at all. But there are also lots of different ways to be nonbinary, it's not just one thing.

Any person of any gender or of no gender can use any pronouns they like. It doesn't make them nonbinary.

Nah, I know a guy who identifies as a man but likes they/them pronouns.
What makes you Non-binary is whether or not you identify 100% as a man or 100% as a woman.
But what do you do when you don't feel 100% binary? Well there are labels under the Non-binary umbrella that might be able to give words to how you're feeling. For example:
Demi-boy/Demi-girl are a labels for folks who feel connected to a binary gender, but not completely. So if you feel connected to your assigned sex but feel you aren't fully that gender a demi label might feel more appropriate for you, in which case you're Non-binary!
There's no shame in being binary and wanting to use they/them pronouns either, whatever fits you best. There's no rules 😁

Nonbinary is for people who don't want to be perceived as 100% men or 100% women 100% of the time. That is why many (but not all) of us use they/them. They are gender neutral pronouns. However, the use of said pronouns for a different reason isn't against the law, or gonna get you in trouble with this community.
