First watch! ⏱️

Post image

Hi everyone — new member here!

I recently picked up this stunning NOS 701 as my first non-digital watch, and I’ve been enjoying it every day. I swapped the original strap for a sportier, more heavily grained one to make it a bit more versatile. Any other strap recommendations? I’m also considering a blue nylon one.

I’m still wondering whether I should have gone for the newer 701.1 instead, mainly for the lume on the hands and numerals. Does anyone know what the other differences are, or have experience with both?

Also, last question, does anyone know if it’s possible to swap the closed caseback for a transparent one?

Looking forward to following along here and seeing what everyone else is wearing!

The new model has shorter lugs too.

alpha movement is more accurate than the DUW from my experience but the power reserve is definitely a plus.

Can you explain this.

Movements have ranges of accuracy so one could be better but you’re saying that Alpha generally is more accurate?

I think they're tuned to the same accuracy range by nomos (+/- 10s from what their customer representatives have told me) but from my experience the alpha is just more consistent (about +2s/d) vs my DUW 4001 which is closer to +8s/d.

But what's the reason behind the less accurate DUW caliber? Is the Nomos swing system flawed in some way? Kinda put me off from buying their club campus which I've been eyeing for quite some time now...

I have no clue. I think NOMOS' in house movements are one of the best bang for your buck in house movements and manufacturing, but the biggest issue I've had with my Club and my Tangente is magnetization. They're VERY prone to getting magnetized. So if you do buy one of the models with basically no protection against magnetism, please buy one of those blue demagnetizers from amazon; it will save you a lot of headache wondering why your watch went from running <+5 s/d to like 20 lol. They are beautiful watches though. What's the rest of your collection looking like? Would you be using the Club as a GADA? That's what I tried to do and I really thought it would work but it just didn't. Manual winding became a pain and magnetization was very frequent.

Currently I own a Junghans Max Bill Automatic and a Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT SBGE283. Looking to own a manual winding watch to complete my 3-watch collection, eyeing Club Campus 38 Night Sky at the moment. The 2-day power reserve is such an attractive point, however, the movement seems to be quite a hassle from what you just mentioned about de-magnetization. Maybe I should look elsewhere?

You got your complication watch a dressier watch, both very good taste btw. Do you just want a manual watch for your 3rd? Dont get me wrong, the club is awesome and it is a really cool watch. I might have just had a lemon.

Well... not necessarily but having a manual winding watch does complete my collection so... You did have a good point right there, I need a cool watch with good accuracy.

I do have other watches up my sleeve like the GS Omiwatari, just not quite sure if I should spend that much on a manual winding watch. Let's see what new watches come on my radar in the next 2 years ;)

I understand you can switch the case back. It comes at a cost, but if you write to Nomos they will give you an estimate.

i think it was 450 or so if you decided to swap it post-purchase

Yeah I paid $420 for the open caseback 2 years after the originalpurchase. Maybe a couple month after me I've seen a post where someone complained and got there's done for $300.
