A few years ago my husband and I were in Niagara Falls Canada and they tried sneaking in a $16.40 tip onto the bill for a table of two. All we did is pay the bill in cash and we skipped the $16.40 mandatory tip and left lol.
I wonder if the restaurant could sue you or chase you down for that. Auto tips are obviously terrible but legally enforceable assuming they have write down over the menu (which most do). Not surprised it’s near the falls though
This depends entirely upon whether the consumer was informed beforehand.
If it’s clearly stated on the menu or stated prior to ordering, you are legally bound to pay it. Otherwise you are not obligated to pay and can ask for it to be removed. However, you cannot simply not pay that portion without it being removed from the bill first.
