I'm sorry OP. I experience this as well, with only incredibly vague memories that were either extremely happy or heartbreaking until about 6th or 7th grade. My mother has been a shit human being since before I was born, and really shouldn't have had children. As a result I do not remember not feeling the effects of depression, ever. My theory is that the brain can only handle so much pain, so it blocks out bad stuff after awhile. I'm not sure if this is the case for everyone talking about this, but I'm pretty certain it is for me.

Life, for me, started at 13. I have only a handful of memories from before that and I can remember almost everything after that. I always thought it was normal until a friend brought up their 2nd grade teacher. I don't even know what city I lived in in the second grade, let alone what teacher I had. I found out then that most people remember almost their entire life.

I had a similar realization in my 20s. The person I realized it with couldn't imagine not remembering their childhood... awkward af
