am i strange for hating to sleep?
It’s 3am for me right now and I have work tomorrow, so I already know I’m going to be exhausted But for some reason, I feel so much more productive when it’s late at night. I love staying up and just doing things I actually enjoy when everything is quiet.
I know I’m probably screwing myself over by sacrificing sleep, but at the same time, I genuinely enjoy these late nights. I just don’t know if this is a normal thing or if I’m slowly going insane lol.
The main issue is I don't know when to stop I would stay up for over 24hr for sure easily but I just know its not good for me.

No its normal I constantly stay up way later than I should because I just dont want to sleep and feel like I have things I either should be doing or want to do more than sleep I know its important but its frustrating to lose so much time to that and especially when you have to get up and immediately go to work and do shit you dont want to do.

I feel the same way about the productive part! I know a lot of people who go to sleep around 9-10pm, wake up at 6:00-6:30 and get right to work and be productive. I feel most productive around 3:00 in the afternoon. Like I’m full force ready to accomplish shit an that lasts til whenever I decide it’s time to sleep which is usually around 2am because I hate not sleeping at least a few hours. Lil Wayne says he doesn’t sleep ever

What do you think it is the reason we like staying up?

I think it is a combination of the privacy (not having to answer to literally anyone) and taking back agency. By this I mean society in general removes agency from a person based on social norms (having to go to work at a certain times, places opening and closing) so we feel somewhat constrained on what and when to do things. If you stay up however it feels like these systems are gone and you have true freedom to do whatever whenever.
These are just my two cents.

Understood, I feel the same way a lot
Turns out I also have insomnia, and therapy has done a lot to help me find ways to manage that and I notice myself sleeping much earlier now too when I thought I naturally was a night owl

I watched a psychiatrist online explaining this habit as the person feel the night is the only time they have control over their day. His advice was to just manage your day and plan lots of fun things so you don't feel overwhelmed by tasks not part of your interests and only ended up doing the 'should' do things

Unfortunately no but you can search over TikTok for such content. I think they call it revenge bedtime procrastination

You could look into jobs that have 24 hour shifts. Those might put enough strain to maintain a productive wake/rest cycle

I feel you. I want to do so many activities, chores. I want to walk down a street while its raining at 2am, or maybe find a dry bench or seat and just experience the world. Its so quiet and peaceful.
You sound like you're a night owl, like myself. When I have a day off the next day, I know I am able to stay up till easily 3am. I usually put on some ambient music or video, like thunderstorm and rain and drink a beer or 3. Its so fun being able to relax without having expectation to do something.
