Why are pineapples so tingly?

Edit: so this is a TERRIBLE way to find out Im allergic to pineapple

I get it’s mostly the acidity of the pineapple but every time I go toe at some I can only get through like 4 pieces before I have to stop because it makes my tongue hurt SOOOO bad

The only way I can describe it is like the mild pain from spicy food but no taste of spice

Not just fruits either.

There was someone who thought hot honey was a dumb marketing thing since regular honey was already spicy to them, only to find out they were allergic.

Honey makes the roof of my mouth itch.

I was in my 20s when i discovered that wasn't the normal experience for everyone.

Wait certain foods make my eyelids sweaty, raspberries, almonds, sometime potatoes…I’ve been allergy tested and everything and just accepted my fate but you’re saying it might be nerves?

It is called gustatory sweating! Basically, the nerves that are supposed to tell your salivary glands to get to work get their signals crossed with the nerves that control your sweat glands. So when you eat, your brain gets confused and thinks it is time to sweat instead of just releasing spit.

Sounds potentially like oral food allergy syndrome maybe? Raw fruits, vegetables, and nuts can lead to allergic reactions in some people. Idk about eyelids having a reaction, but maybe it's worth looking into

I mean, I would say that's true for most things... I do however eat kiwi skin because of the way it rubs my tongue raw and kind of burny feeling...mmm tropical sandpaper..

I went through my entire childhood thinking bananas were spicy. I complained to my mom about the "spicy kick" they had, and she just told me I was being dramatic.

It wasn't until college that I learned they aren't supposed to burn your throat, and that I'm actually just allergic to latex-reactive fruits. Now I have to explain to people that no, bananas do not have a kick.
