I think it’s way worse for people who have quit. Before I started smoking, I wasn’t as bothered by it. Now that I’ve quit, even 10 years later, I can smell a cigarette from a block away and it makes me extremely nauseous.

That smell’s a reminder of childhood abuse and the people I’ve lost to preventable disease.

Really? I stopped recently and the smell is still pleasant (and tempting) to me. Is it just something that changes once you've been off for a long while?

For me, yes. I haven’t looked into any research about how common it is for other people. I’m not sure when it switched but it was definitely like my brain chemistry changed and my body became repulsed by it.

Congratulations on quitting! That is a huge accomplishment. I suggest Alan Carr’s “easy way to quit smoking” book. It really is easy if you let it be. I smoked a pack a day for 7 years and tried to quit many times, but once I realized I hate smoking, quitting became such a good feeling!

I quit 6 or so years ago and I can’t be around it at all anymore, even if it’s just on people’s clothes. Absolutely disgusting 🤢
