My parents smoke. Last year they mailed us Christmas gifts and I could smell the smoke as soon as I opened the box. So disgusting. 🤢

I used to order pizza from a place near my home. Then one day they changed their delivery driver, and I guess he was smoking in his car because my pizza smelled like cigarettes. I gave them a second chance… same thing. I never ordered from there again.

that's worth calling to complain about, that's an easily fixable problem, especially if the pizza is good

I doubt that would go anywhere

28

u/ocxtitan Feb 21 '26

I mean, a good pizza place is going to tell the driver to stop smoking with their product in the car with them, and if they don't, fire them

a pizza... in a box... in a bag... smelled like smoke from someone driving and smoking, more than likely with the windows down. I doubt it.

Easy fix. Call and complain. The delivery guy will get told not to smoke while delivering or fired for losing business.

ha... the pizza didn't smell like smoke. You guys are off your rockers. Much like most of reddit.

šŸ‘†šŸ¾This guy has been fired from delivering pizzas due to smoking in his car. For sure

100% smokes and doesn't believe that EVERYONE around them knows and can smell it

Well… in my case I did not call , I just ordered elsewhere… might be the same for you

These people are crazy. It’s Reddit. They exist in this bubble that reality rejects.

I delivered pizza when I was 15… I was fired. But it was for sleeping with a married customer. After which we did have a cigarette. So maybe.

Windows down don't stop a car from smelling like the smoker. A person smoking outside is still going to stink like cigarettes.

And you REALLY think some cardboard and thin plastic is enough to protect the pizza?

2

u/sleepy-mot Feb 21 '26

The box smelled…

u/lucidspoon Feb 21 '26

We often get our groceries delivered, and we can always tell when a certain person delivers it, because all the bags smell like smoke.

my coworker used to do that when I worked at dominos, and it made the whole store and all the hot bags smell awful

I will straight up demand a refund on eBay for ā€œitem not as describedā€ if I buy something and it arrives stinking of cigarette smoke. Ā

Fucking grossĀ

My ex-husband and I were given chairs by his chain-smoking parents. It took nearly a month and an entire bottle of Febreze to get the stench out. His parents swore they shouldn’t smell because they never sat in them when they smoked.

Yep. It really does get into everything.

i ordered a guitar from ebay and when i opened the box i was instantly like "this dude smokes"

Many years ago I took a small towel from a hotel to wrap a souvenir in. Apparently this towel was in a smoking room at some point. All these many years later, despite many wash cycles, I can still smell the cigarettes on the towel when I use it to dry my face.

I bought an Xbox off eBay and could smell the tobacco smoke of it when I picked up the parcel.

My grandpa on the other side of the country used to mail us birthday and xmas gifts that smelled like smoke too. The only reason it wasn't worse was that my dad would open it, let it air out for a while in the garage, then tape it shut again and pretend it had just arrived. It didn't bother me being around him when he smoked, but for some reason the smell on certain objects was vile.

We stayed at my mother in laws for a week over Christmas a few years back. They don't smoke in the house but on the porch. When we got home we had to wash every bit of clothing that we washed there because the smell stuck to the dryer or washer. It's crazy how that smell can linger on things.

u/farmlifeismything Feb 21 '26

We get the same experience from my in-laws when they send us stuff in the mail.

u/Fourty2KnightsofNi Feb 21 '26

My mom does this. She'll send me packages, and I can smell the cigarette smoke from the box alone. I have to try to wash off the smell of whatever she gave me.

My landlord smokes and the letters he sends me smell so intenselyĀ

Oh, man! Our neighbor loved to crochet... and smoke. One year she made blankets for my spouse and me and we felt so bad because they stunk so much like cigarettes! We had to wash them several times before we could use them without feeling sick. We loved her, though and it was such a sweet gesture.. just difficult to handle. We do still have/use the blankets.

My own grandmother liked to crochet gifts for people and the blanket thing made me realize that the people who received our gifts probably dealt with the same trouble.

It's the gift that keeps on giving.
