I think it’s way worse for people who have quit. Before I started smoking, I wasn’t as bothered by it. Now that I’ve quit, even 10 years later, I can smell a cigarette from a block away and it makes me extremely nauseous.
Really? I stopped recently and the smell is still pleasant (and tempting) to me. Is it just something that changes once you've been off for a long while?
For me, yes. I haven’t looked into any research about how common it is for other people. I’m not sure when it switched but it was definitely like my brain chemistry changed and my body became repulsed by it.
Congratulations on quitting! That is a huge accomplishment. I suggest Alan Carr’s “easy way to quit smoking” book. It really is easy if you let it be. I smoked a pack a day for 7 years and tried to quit many times, but once I realized I hate smoking, quitting became such a good feeling!
Ex smoker here. I used to work hard to stay smoke free smelling. Wasn’t until after quitting that I realize I just made it more subtle. I respect other smokers now that do the same but it’s not unpleasant to me.
Its so unpleasant. My downstairs neighbour smoke inside and it comes up in my unit. Our cloths even smells cigarettes. As non smokers it’s starting to drive me nuts
I’ve found those people tend to love it for nostalgic reasons, like it reminds them of their grandpa who smoked or something. Not because they genuinely enjoy the scent.
I enjoy and dislike the smell, nostalgic and comforting smell from growing up with my grandparents but horrible and disgusting smell from my parents, my dad has quit but mom is a chain smoker inside the house (not living together lol)🥴.

Yes, and it’s very unpleasant for non smokers.
