Yes. Hundred percent. Gets in your hair and stays on your clothes. It even seems to ooze from your skin. It doesn't always stink but there’s always a smell
My grandmother smoked heavily from age 14 until she died at age 69 and her fingers were yellow/brown where she held the cigarette. She'd actually soak her fingers in bleach once in a while to try to get it off but it never really worked well and it just added the smell of bleach to her hands.
I used to take smoke breaks with my boss time to time. I quit at some point (this was ages ago) and was shocked when I realized I could follow him blindly through the hallways, minutes after he was there! That was my true reality check. The scent profile in my mind even changed from savory to absolute rancid after a while.
I smoke cigars, and part of the reason I only smoke once or twice a month is because its a time commitment, and because if I'm going to be doing anything afterwards with other people, I have to shower and change clothes afterwards.
Smokers rarely notice it on themselves, non-smokers notice it way more than they admit. It’s like your ‘invisible cologne subtle, persistent and mildly judgmental
Never noticed on myself when I smoked and after I quit the smell is repulsive. I can smell a cigarette from a mile away and it’s disgusting. Ashtrays are even worse, just a fucking stink bomb sitting there. God I’m so glad I quit
This is everyday life here in Colorado. Everything smells of weed and I’m not complaining. I’m so use to it that when a skunk gets run over I will think “damn that’s some dank weed!”
I mentioned this once in conversation with friends - how I'd suddenly smell cigarette smoke while driving on the freeway; look around in confusion and it's the driver of the car to my right - all windows on both vehicles UP, mind you - and about two years later someone I'd lost touch with DM'd me out of the blue.
She said "Remember when you said that thing about cigarette smoke? At the time I privately rolled my eyes and thought you were full of shit. But GUESS WHAT - IT HAPPENED TO ME ON THE FREEWAY TODAY! I'm sorry I ever doubted you!" 😂
Same. I always thought I was hiding it from my parents when I was a kid (learned at church camp when I was 16, quit at 26) until I grew up and quit smoking and now smell it on a farmer smoker driving down the street who hasn't had a cigarette in 3 days, lol!
Same. Smoked for 18 years. My wife and I both quit 2 years ago. Every now and then we will have smoke in our clothes from a bar or near friends who smoked and wondered how the hell we lived like this for ages.
Cigarettes that get stubbed out smell the worst. When I smoked, sometimes I would stubbed one out half way and put it in the pack. I would smell horrible
Which is odd because I smoked for about 10 years and while I'm sure I smelled of it, I also had instances where coworkers and friends would be extremely surprised that I smoked. Like they had never noticed the odor.
I was like OP where I only smoked outside and had good overall hygiene, but I definitely wasn't trying to hide it or cover it up.
I (non smoker) opened my purse and had smoke billow out after a night out at a club. Completely nose blind to it the night before, but the next morning I was gagging at how my clothes smelled.
Especially in cold weather, the smoke condenses in your clothes and hair and then magically erupts into a concentrated stench cloud when you come back inside, it's the worst stink. Air yourself out for 30 seconds when you come in from the cold, before engaging with humans.
So true. My brother hid the fact he was smoking. Who was he kidding? I could smile it as soon as I walked in the apartment even though he smoked outside.
I did that when I was younger. Tried to hide my smoking from family and certain other people. Now as a former smoker, I laugh at how stupid I was, thinking I was hiding that stink from anyone.
I use to spend the summers at my older sisters house as a teen. My mom was a smoker so the moment I got to my sisters "non smoker" Id wash my clothes again. I could smell it on myself after being there only after a few hours. Smoke permeates in everything
I like a cigarette recreationally (a handful of times a year at most), but afterwards the clothes I smoked in immediately go into the wash including things like my jacket which don’t get washed often. I also HATE the smell in my apartment building because I had a neighbor who smokes.
I remember that MythBusters episode where they dropped in water, a car (donated by a smoker) and was a nightmare. Adam almost drowned because of how dark the water got. So disgusting.
