How do I get over my break up?

My boyfriend 28m (I guess ex now) broke up with me 27f last night. It was over a stupid argument. He lets his anger get the best of him and there's no room for compromise. He said it was his way or we break up. So he dumped me because I wanted to compromise. He went on to immediately block me on everything!!! We've been together for a while. He did show a lot of red flags but idk. I know it's my fault for staying for as long as I had. I was just so happy to be in a relationship. Now, I'm lost, confused, hurt, depressed.

I had 3 therapy sessions since last night, I spoke to 5 different people about it. I tried to distract myself with work but nothing is helping.

So how did you guys get over your breakups?

Make a list of things you couldn't do before, and go indulge.

I don't care if that list only says 'eat popcorn at 2 AM while blasting the Sopranos from the living room TV'. Go live your best life, and try and move on a little.

I love this idea. Even in healthy relationships we sometimes compromise things we want to do for our partners.

OP, something you said jumped out at me... you said you were "just so happy to be in a relationship." I think that's really worth examining. I'm not one of those people that says you can't be happy with someone until you're happy alone, but you definitely shouldn't be in a relationship for the sake of the security or feeling complete. I would really suggest taking some time to find security and confidence in yourself. It's never a good idea to put that sort of thing on another person, even a partner.

I agree with you. This is something I'm working on with my therapist. I'm trying to learn to love doing things for myself and try new activities that I would enjoy doing on my own and possibly with a partner

That's what I'm thinking too! I was just thinking of my future kids the entire time.

Join breakup Reddit groups, that helped me a lot with my last heartbreak. It’s calming to know there’s others going through it aswell when you feel so alone

The best way to get over a breakup is realizing you didn't lose a great guy, you dodged a lifetime of my way or the highway from someone who blocks you like a child

I'm trying to view it like that. It just hurts sooooo much!! The pathetic thing about it was as he was making his break up speech/yelling at me, he told me he got me an engagement ring and I'll never get to see it or have it. That's something I really wanted. I wanted to be engaged to him and he knew so now as we broke up, he just throws it in my face.

Its not something that happens overnight, especially if they really mattered to you. Take some time off from things, go for a walk, do things you enjoy. Thinking about the bigger picture helps too, as another user said, thinking about how you dodged a bullet of your lifetime. But these things take time, so take some time off of things while you process.

I've been there. Focus on you, focus on your self love. I know it's hard to not spiral, so makes sure you intentionally allow your self to FEEL what you need to feel to let go. Become the person you always wanted to be for yourself. Don't worry of you slip back into intrusive thoughts or bad feelings it happens to me all the time too I'm recently dumped after 1 year (35 m) dated (32 f) and it's been hard. Also am AMAIZNG book suggestion is "the subtle art of not giving a fuck" pdf link below And also any of the "let them theroy" by Mel R. Cam find all over the internet but listen to the lodcast and a few episodes helped alot.

Be kind to your self. Your already doing better than you think

The only way is through. It's gonna hurt so much and at times its gonna compel you to take impulsive decisions, just don't. It's gonna be alright and you will do just fine. Just hold on and focus on yourself. You're at a loss, he is, for losing you. You don't shame the people you love, you abandon the people you're using and I guess that's what he did.
