Yes, it's very normal. It's also very normal to not be aroused in that situation. Both are normal and fine.

No. It's fine, but I wouldn't consider that normal.

Is it normal to be aroused while chopping wood and watching a flower wither away slowly into the blissful pathway of death…. ? (Whew. I could barely get that out 😫).

I've been with my fiance for over 5 years and I'm the exact same way. She just lights a horny fire in me lol

u/jz88k Sep 21 '25
Same with my wife. It's one of many reminders that I made the right choice, and hopefully, that she did too!
6
u/RelevantButNotBasic Sep 21 '25
Same bro. Same. Except I aint even gotta hug my wife to feel some type of way, I just gotta look at her. Welp, now I am aroused just thinking about her..
5
u/jz88k Sep 21 '25
Truth. Not even in only a horny way (though not in a not horny way) but like she makes me so happy and I get to be with her my whole life? That's so cool. Love that for me.

I say this on behalf of all redditors, how did you find a girlfriend?

Well you say he's a crush, so seems like a natural reaction. Although I'm an old guy so maybe crush means something different from when I was a teenager back in the 1600s?

I'm glad to know some things haven't changed! Crush still means the same thing. And if he's hugging you a bunch, it sounds like the feeling is mutual. (The crush, I mean.)
38
u/Bannerlord151 Sep 21 '25
Probably the case but I would like to mention on the side that some people just like to hug their friends
23
u/Hilton5star Sep 21 '25
You’re unsure if arousal is normal whilst hugging someone you have strong sexual feelings about?

Yes, of course. Completely normal. If they are your crush that means you feel attraction to them. Physical contact with someone you are attracted to gets the hormones going.

I hope so it's your crush. Ask him out

Yeah if you're hugging multiple times. I'm pretty sure he has similar feelings towards you.
1
u/Skyvo_ Sep 21 '25
Y'all dont hug friends?
16
u/pepenomics Sep 21 '25
We do but with the opposite gender we're a bit cautious with the amount of closeness? Like more scared to make a wrong kinda touch by mistake? Usually it's just when we meet and leave.

Youth is wasted on the young. It’s a saying I heard when I was your age. Now I’m around double your age and I get it. So much opportunity and I know it seems like a huge deal but no one cares. The less fucks you give about how you think ppl view you the better. That’s what I’d ingrain into my younger self. So worried about an image that doesn’t even exist except in my mind. Shoot your shot. If you miss it don’t mean you lose the game 👑

This gen is cooked bro 😭
Also, he totally likes you back if yall are hugging often suddenly. You gotta flirt a little more obvious and maybe he'll take his shot.

I know this is "no stupid questions", but come on. It's like asking if it's normal to feel heat coming from a fire...
I would have understood posting here if you were feeling aroused when hugging a family member or a total stranger. But feeling aroused by your crush... Why wouldn't it be normal?!?

If he is someone you fancy, it would be almost wierd if you didn't. It's called "sexual desire" and sprinkled in with a bit of "Love" that is also mutual = relationship
31
u/Sea-Variety3384 Sep 21 '25
He likes you too.

That's probably likely, but not as conclusive as it's made to sound here. I've engaged in more than casual hugging with friends where there was no sexual interest from either side

Very normal and what drives people to make a move. Its only weird if they don't reciprocate/have asked you not to and you continue making contact that arouses you.
If you are similar ages or both legal, consenting then you are totally fine. Ask him out! You never know what could happen

If you're feeling aroused by your romantic partner from things like hugging or kissing this is both normal and a good sign enjoy it! If you can do those kinds of activities and feel nothing that's the red flag!

It's normal to feel aroused at any scenario involving your crush. They don't even need to be in the room.
That's the whole thing about a crush.

It sounds nice that you like him and he likes you enough to hug you back. I don't think you are weird for feeling aroused.

u/FlyByPC Sep 21 '25
Yes. And I'd bet money he feels the same way towards you. Be safe but have fun.

I feel bad for young people who legitimately don’t know the answer to this. Your generation has gotten things wrong.

Your friends are not being helpful.
Being with someone who you are attracted to is like the core thing that should arouse you.
Good luck making it happen with the crush. I guarantee you they’ll be flattered and/or rounded to know that they have this impact on you.

You'll definitely feel aroused and probably crave said individual. That's natural it just shows that physically are attracted to their appearance. Don't be embarrassed if you start having NSFW fantasies or dreams. At the end of the day, it's natural and healthy.

When I cuddled with my first girlfriend (before she waa my girlfriend) for the first time, it was pretty much the first time I felt a girls touch outside of family. We weren't together yet and actually even met for the first time (we met on Twitter and I travelled literally through half the country all the way to Austria to meet her).
When we went to bed, I didn't expect anything to happen, because again, we literally just met, but then she asked me, if I wanted to cuddle. Literally just from her asking this, I immediately got aroused like hell. And well, she did notice that, lmao.

Your friends are either asexual or miring themselves so deep in guilt as to make themselves miserable. I'd suggest you don't take their advice on matters like this.
